Take some care of the dern plastic. It's PART of the deal. Who wants to have to reslab to get a presentable product?

Watch it bub! I play hockey with my slabs...I love hockey. Placing one of my gold pieces "top shelf" is the highlight of my day. laugh.gif

Actually, I believe if a slabbed coin has been through at least one large auction and it's from a fairly popular series the chances are that the slab will be scratched to hell and back. Especially, PCGS slabs....

Slabs with bad scratches on them really take away some of the enjoyment out of viewing a coin. I try to handle them with respect so as to preserve every part of the coin/slab combination.

I posted about a product I found to clean up scratched slabs some time ago. Here is the post for anyone who might be interested.

I just found a new product for cleaning up scratched holders and thought the info would be of interest to the board. It is a plastic polish and is sold by Griot’s Garage, a company that sells high-end car care products.

I have used it and it works better than any of the other things I have tried in the past. It completely removed fine scratches and scuffmarks from both NGC and PCGS holders. Although it will not completely remove deeper scratches, it did significantly reduce them to a point where they are no longer as distracting or annoying. At $9.95 for an 8oz bottle, I think the price is pretty good, as 8oz should last the average collector for years.

For disclosure purposes I have no connection to this company other than as a customer.

Here is a link to the product on their site.

I hate scratched up slabs too. When I go to on buying trips to shows I almost always run into a slab or two that is so beat up that I can't see the coin properly, or hope to sell the coin to a customer because the slab is so ugly. 893frustrated.gif

I use NGC boxes to store my inventory, but dealers can't or won't do that. Those boxes keep the slabs from rubbing against each, which minimizes the scratches. Trouble is the boxes take up a lot more room than the conventional slab boxes, especially if you have a lot of coins. It makes it tougher to carry coins from show to show especially if you have to fly.

Solutions are hard to come by here, but one might be thin cardboard inserts like NGC uses for its mailer boxes. That would keep the slab apart and cut down in the scratches.
