I wish there was more information about coinage but it is not the focus of the museum. I posted some MPC info in the paper money forum as well if you have not seen it. It is only about series 691 and 701.

I'm surprised they had a display of Obsolete Currency.

 

As I understand it, the Government should have paid its bills (including payrolls) in specie (gold or silver or receipts for gold or silver) prior to the Greenback Era.

 

Perhaps "should" covered a lot of ground in those days.
