What the hot water in my tab does to a morgan dollar

Maybe you could gently tone a bunch of coins in hot sulfur water, then sell them on ebay as the famous “Eyjafjallajokull Collection” from the land of fire and ice.

Siggi,

If you haven't run the test yet, try setting up a rig so that only half of the coin is in the water and let it sit for awhile.

What I am thinking is that with the running water the sulfur was reacting and the running water was constantly resupplying fresh reactant. In a stationary supply there may not be enough sulfur to make a noticeable change especially if the entire coin changes subtly. (say it makes it 2% darker.) But if only half of the coin is exposed it would make any change more visible between the treated and untreated sides.
