1922 Peace Dollar - Unknown Clashed Die?

3 posts in this topic

Hello, Is there any significance to the below clashed die - specifically, the raised "line" above the eagle's shoulder? A clashed die listed on page 420 and 421 (Allen and Mallis 4th edition) shows an extra line extending "straight up" from the eagle's right wing. However, the below coin reflects an extra line extending on a "45-degree angle" from the eagle's right wing. Any assistance is appreciated. Ken

Hello and welcome.

The reverse photographs are a bit small, but it does appear to be a clashed die mark or a die crack mark. The appearance is sharp and straight so my first impression is clashed die. However, the clash is minimal and really only of interest to variety enthusiasts. Value??? Maybe an ebay offering may help.
