Who Ordered Their PCG$ Autographed Jessica Lynch Coin

20 posts in this topic

Anyone else read the press release put out for these abominations?

Who the hell would want to buy a bullion round with an insert autographed by Jessica Lynch? These autographed coins are getting more ridiculous by the day.

"PCGS is known for being a quality company offering wonderful limited edition collector coins including the signatures of past presidents and other dignitaries," said Lynch.

I wasn't aware she was a coin collector with knowledge of PCGS and the autographed coin program before the check arrived at her door.

"It is an honor for me to be selected to represent all the women who serve in the military as I know my signature will accompany the U.S. Silver Eagle bullion coins and the 1994 Women Veterans U.S. commemorative silver dollars. I share this, and every honor, with the loving memory of my friend and fellow comrade, Lori Piestewa. I look forward to this opportunity to raise money for my foundation and I appreciate this honor."

I'm sorry, but bringing up your dead friend isn't cool when you're hawking POS to collectors.

"Over the next three years, Ms. Lynch will be autographing PCGS inserts for coins with designs that have symbolic messages of liberty and freedom. These PCGS-certified coins will be sold to the public through strategic alliances with third-party distributors," explained Standish.

For information about the availability of the limited edition autographed coins, contact Standish at PCGS...

I guess that strategic alliance means Miles himself? Perhaps DHRC?

I believe the next autographed coin series will be people on death row will be autographing inserts for the Edison electricity commem. It'll be an honor to sign this junk before I'm fried thanks to his invention. cloud9.gif

Who would buy this stuff? foreheadslap.gif I'd be embarrassed to own one. It's like owning a colorized silver eagle or gold plated state quarter.

Geez, Greg, I hope this thread doesn't devolve into a virulent and angry thread about Pvt Lynch herself, or even about Bush, the war, anti-government sentiments, women in the military, reservists, and whatever else that is barely tangential to the intended topic of your thread.

I guess that I'm lucky I didn't include a poll asking if Jessica Lynch is a hero...

I actually planned on posting this the day I got the email from PCGS about their latest collector hoax. Then today I saw a thread on it across the street. I have to admit I only got about 25% down the first of many pages before I gave up reading it. With posts like that I long for the days of Kennedy submission results. grin.gif

Greg:

When is PCGS going to have a series of "banned posters autographed coins"? I have to think for a while as to what coin should be featured, but you know for sure I'll want YOUR autograph! smile.gif

Actually, maybe NGC could create this series--they could use the POW commemorative coin and somehow make clear that the eagle is flying away from the PCGS boards to the more free NGC boards...

I don't really have anything to add that hasn't already been said on either side of the street.

I just wanted to say that I think this release is really, really cheesy on the part of PCGS!

You folks do know that a PCGS autographed coin in a PCGS registry set gives you an extra 5 points.

This is a joke, right? Please, tell me you were only kidding.

OK, I'll admit I was thinking the same thing, but I didn't want to ask if it was a joke or not.

So, were your joking? 893crossfingers-thumb.gif

It's not bashing, it's outright laughing at PCGS over this.At least ICG had the coin designers sign their state quarters. Lynch has no relationship to these coins other than a poor marketing decision by PCGS.

I'm sure these things make money, but come on, just because you can whore your daughter out to the local drunk for a couple of bucks doesn't mean you should!

And when I say make money, I mean for PCGS and the person who autographs the inserts. They seem to drop like a rock in value for the buyers - many times below what the same coin would go for in a non-signed slab.

Inside scuttlebut is that the only reason this program is being implemented is that there was concern about the drop in volume of PCGS bashing posts here.

I don't mean to single out Russ' post, and I certainly don't think he wrote anything bad or incendiary, but I'd like to note that the oft-used label of this place being a bastion of PCGS bashing does not apply at least in this specific case.

Across the street, this issue generated a whole heck of a lot of heat, much directed at PCGS and much directed in other directions by people who felt they had to air their political views.

The mainstay of the membership here is not really substantially any different than across the street. In fact, many of us are bi-located. If we had a problem with this sig slab idea across the street, it seems reasonable that we'd have a problem with that idea over here too.

Those who object to this idea simply dislike the idea, and would've bashed ANY service that implemented this idea. That the service is PCGS is just the way it turned out.

This is just too funny. A rare coin and tropical fish dealer selling Jessica Lynch autographed Jefferson/L&C nickel slabs for $150.

Joke Auction?

I was laughing while reading that auction description.

My only two questions are:

1) When does Jessica Lynch hit the bottom and start doing Iraqi-themed porn.

2) When does PCGS hit the bottom and start slabbing Beanie Babies?

The next time some PCG$-weenie complains that NGC grades coins submitted to them that end up on S@H - point out this [!@#%^&^] that PCG$ specially produces to be hawked to ignorant buyers at insane prices.

I don't care for any of the autograph series of slabs, however, a Chris Fuccione autograph slab has me intrigued... 893scratchchin-thumb.gif893scratchchin-thumb.gif893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Will it be a limited edition? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif
