AT or rightful toning?

I have several 1990-Ds that I put in an envelope in 1990, and I just found them and they look pretty similar. But I really don't know much about toning, so take it with a grain of salt. confused-smiley-013.gif

I had a very similar looking one dated 1938 that was bagged for AT by the other service. I fully believe it was NT and it did get slabbed by ANACS I believe.

Looks like quite a few Jeffs I have that came out of various albums, but primarily the brown, triple-fold Danscos.

The photo is far too "red" to really tell (warm color temperature) but given that AND if this were a Buffalo I'd call it AT. But then again I don't believe I'd pay a premium (for the color) to buy it so if I liked it otherwise then who cares if it's AT?

But still...from the picture I can't really tell.

I've received the coin today and it's everything the picture shows. There are 4 hits on the obverse and the obverse strike is a bit mushy in the letters with the hair lacking detail. The marks, one on the cheek, the others in the hair show some wear so the coin may have had a short life in the real world. The reverse is superb and flawless in every respect. I hate to think the coin is an AU with the kind of reverse it has. I once sold a supposed high grade FS 1939-D which turned out to be an AU58. Evidently there was warranted wear under the toning that plummeted the grade. I fear this coin may end up the same way. I'll never find out at $32, oh well!

It's still a nicely toned Jefferson. There is more sea green toning along the left side of the building not easily shown in the pic.

By the way, can I claim ownership of the sellers pic? 27_laughing.gif
