8 posts in this topic

Hi there, can anybody tell me if 20 cent pieces came in a bag? If so, how many to a bag.? I checked a book out on 20 centers from ANA but it didn't address this. Thanks, Jerry

There must be a special .....HELL...... for questions like this.

It's a GREAT question. It's doggin the heck out of my brain because I think I once may have KNOWN!

But, for now it is a nagging, impenetrable, burning MYSTERY that I didn't have this morning when I got up.

Where is Marilyn Vos Savant when we need her?

Bags? Kegs? Rolls? Maybe they came in SLABS.

Aaaaargh

I don't know for sure, but my guess would be that 20 cent pieces were shipped in bags. Morgan dollars, which were made just a few years later were stored in bags in the treasury vaults, so it's logical to say that they were in bags.

Rolls were really too small of an amount for mint distribution. They were more of a bank thing. The mint rolls that the mint currently sells are a product for coin collectors that the mint sells for prices in excess of their face value.

As for the number of coins per bag, once more its guess work. I'd say that a roll would contain 50 pieces ($10 face). Perhaps a bag may have been $500 face value(???) (50 rolls).

Whatever it was, it did not last for long. The denomination got bad press from the get-go.

Well, most silver came in $1000 bags, so why would double-dimes be any different?

Point well taken. 893applaud-thumb.gif You are probably right, but given the mintages I doubt that there were very many 20 cent piece bags.
