Mercury 1942 D----1942/41?

4 posts in this topic

There are dies, other than the very prominent ones, that show only traces of the underdigit on both the 1942 and 1942-D dimes. So the answer is 'yes, it probably is technically an overdate, but it's not THE overdate - and no, it's probably not worth anything'.

This is news to me. As far as I know there is only one die from Philadelphia and one die from Denver what show the traces of being an overdate. There are no "strong" and "weak" ones. The image seems to show the top of the 1 at the front curve of the 2 but the picture is not clear enough to tell. There should also be evidence on the other digits of the doubled die. Again the picture is not clear.

I have seen others that show traces under strong magnification. I have spoken to other collectors that have observed the same thing.
