1932-S BU Quarter, Grade?

8 posts in this topic

It's hard to tell from that photo because one cannot see the mint luster. The con appears to be devoid of any major marks, which would suggest MS-64 or 65 at least, but it looks like it has no luster in the photo, which could make the grade much lower.

Compare the photo to this photo of a 1932-D quarter that has been whizzed. I'm saying that yours had been whizzed, but it looks almost as dull in your photo.

First coin does not look whizzed (don't see the tell tale whizzing lines) but it does look improperly cleaned and/or wiped down. It would probably come back in an UNC DETAILS slab. The strike is well above average, though.

In its defense the coin could have a film of hazy toning it that makes it look dull in the holder. The picture really does not allow for a reasonable guess as to grade, but yes, the strike is very sharp for the date and mint combination.

Which would lead one to consider the fact that it might be an added mintmark. Not saying that it is, but a coin of this stature should be authenticated.
