These scratches are deeper and perhaps more obvious than in the other coin - even though the other coin's more shallow marks are more offensive on closer inspection.

 

Perhaps this all points to why, 50 years down the road, their TPG grades will only be of moderate significance in determining the coins' values.

 

TPG grades are guaranteed, but what exactly they guarantee is murky. I imagine as long as the grade is +/-1 what a regrade would determine, the grade gets left unchanged. So an MS65 and an MS67 could be equivalent, if both coins were essentially MS66.
