Garden State Show (sp?) - information please?

5 posts in this topic

If you are talking about the GSNA (Garden State Numismatic Association) show then I can tell you something about it. I am a member of the GSNA and I set up at the show. The link for the GSNA is right here. The show will be held in the middle of May this year and will be in central NJ, where it has been for the last five or six years. I have always done well there. If the show were a college basketball league I would call it a competitive mid-major. The associated hotel is inexpensive and quite nice while the show food is actually some of the best I have had. Larry Gentile provides a show for young numismatists and there are conferences for EAC and ANA courses that are held in conjunction. There have also been auctions, though I do not know if this year there will be one. I can't guarantee it, but some big names in the industry, and their very nice coins, are often there with tables. Most of the dealers I know either by site or by name and most of them are quite nice people. Also, the floor traffic has always been good, though not even.

I have also looked it up on there website. If your coming form PA its off of route 278 in Somerset. Here is a link for the directions to get there. http://gsna.org/ucc_directions.pdf

If I can get off of work for the day I may myself try and get down there with my Grandkids. Who knows I may even see you there.

The GSNA show has been growing over the past 3-4 years. It usually has about 40-50 dealers and last year Mary Sauvain (MGS&NCI) was there for the first time. Also New World Rarities will be there and will hold an auction at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15. Book dealer John Burns is also usually there.

It usually attracts mid- and upper-middle priced material. Many of the larger dealers who go to Parsippany go to GSNA and a few of the larger dealers who go to White Plains also show up. (not to forget our own TomB and njcoincrank!)

I'd say the show is definately worth an hour or more drive. I don't think it's worth flying in for (unless you'll be around anyway).
