I don't know how much you paid for that, but that's the kind of coin I wouldn't even look at the price. That is by far the most excellently toned Mercury I've ever seen.

Thanks folks! It makes me feel really good to hear the comments about the coin. The one thing I find most amazing about this coin ( and I am sure Mark or Shane can attest to this) is the Star designation could have went for the color or the luster. The coin truly has star luster. It has that "pop" as I call it. This is more than likely the only Merc Ill be keeping as I think I am shifting gears and going to begin a rainbow toned type set. This one will fill my Mercury hole. Its not my most expensive but it is my favorite dime. I just started getting bored with all of the Roosies and Mercs. Im sure Ill hoard a few other Mercs but I am definitely cutting back so I can raise funds for the other coins in the type set. :D

Excellent idea using this coin to begin a rainbow toned type set. Best obverse I have ever seen on a Merc and the photos were first rate.

The toning on that coin is phenomenal. Glad your mailman finally found it. I wanted to chime in on that CT thread, but it was PLB (post Lehigh banning).

I like Shane's photos better than Jeremy's

Wowee! This Mercury Dime Qualifies as a Rainbow and a Monster!

PLB..Thats awesome!!!! lol

Yea that mailman incident tripped me out, I think I jumped the gun a little. I didn't realize on registered packages they dont update the tracking info so it looked like it left my post office and disappeared. Thanks for the comment on the coin, and dont remind me off all the things they said about the coin ATS lol You just got to hold it in your hand to realize that there is more to it then a couple of hits on the cheek. The typical response in hand is " this coin has been cleaned" :D so then I just grab it and realize there knowledge of coins is not very vast.

I just wish this coin had a better strike. Are you saying that people are confusing die polishing lines for cleaning?

That is quite common. Actually, when I submitted one of my almost-PL Walkers to NGC, the guy in receiving called me and asked if I really wanted to submit it. He said it looked like someone had taken a wire brush to the coin, and was concerned I would be wasting my money due to the harsh cleaning. I told him thanks, but I know what I'm doing. The coin got a *, but not PL.

I guess it is good news that there is an article about this subject in this month's Numismatist.
