For sale: US gold coin 20$ - 1915

7 posts in this topic

Hi,

I'm a french woman, so please forgive my poor english... Click here to enlarge

My father recently died and I inherited a gold coin from him. My father always said to me that this coin was brought back by my grandfather (he was born in the USA in 1895, and as he was an artist, he moved to France during the 20's where he stayed until his death in 1966).

Here the best pics I have of the coin:

As you can see, It's a 20$ US gold coin from 1915 (with a tiny tiny S above the date). I'm not a specialist so I would say It's in a nice shape (not polished and kept out of humidity in a jewel box).

I had totally no idea of what this coin could worth and as I didn't find someone in France who can tell me exactly Its worth... I tried to contact US coin collectors and specialists on different forum: as for them It could be sold beetween 1300$ and 2000$.

So If anyone is interested buying It... Please make me an offer (PM or email).

Colette

Hi,

Could you take another picture of it beside a US quarter, please? I would just like to confirm the size.

Many thanks! (thumbs u

If anyone buys this coin, suggest using an escrow service or insist on having the coin sent first for examination before sending your money to France.

If I bought it I was going to pick it up in person. (thumbs u

This person has been trying to sell it ATS.....so many red flags, it's not funny. 'She' won't say whether or not 'she' accepts Paypal, will not send coin first, due to the risk of being ripped off. 'She' claims to have been to other sites to get a value on it, yet only seems to have tried ATS. Now 'she' has come here. For a first timer using these sites, 'she' has no problem figuring out how to link a pic, which some long-time users have a difficult time doing (her first link to a hosting site set off anti-virus protection for a number of people). She also knew enough to bump the BST thread.

Unless this person accepts Paypal (which could still spell doom for the buyer), this is a no brainer scam. For a newbie, 'she' refuses to send coin first , due to 'risk of getting ripped off'. This is without a doubt a scam...the writing style is that of a bad Craigslister. Just FYI, as 'she' has had no luck whatsoever ATS, and now pops up here. Here is a current thread on this 'person' from ATS..

Just FYI for the safety of the fine members here.
