My Dad gave me a bag of Middle Eastern coins to ID for him. I was able to identify all of the coins but one. Could any one here lend some assistance on this one?

I was thinking Turkey but could not find a match in the Krause book.

See photo.

Thanks

Have a great day

Jim

I looked in the archives of Heritage Auctions under coins from Turkey and there were several coins that appeared to have a design very similar to the one your looking for.

You might try looking there as I only quickly scanned through them. Good luck.

It is an Egyptian coin, from the year AH1293= 1876.

The denomination is a Guerche, a copper- nickel coin and there were approx 200,000 minted.

The coin comes from the reign of Abdul Hamid II who reigned from AH1293 to 1327 (1876-1909).

Hope that helps,John.

It's also from the 30th year of his reign so that would make it about 1906. the 30 for the regal year is at the top of the first picture
