Need help identifying a european gold coin.

Hi Bob,

The coin is not from France. It is a Papal States/Vatican coin. The size is not mentioned, so it is either a 1/2 Zecchino or a 1 Zecchino gold coin. The date appears to be 1743, but I cannot see clearly from the photograph. The planchet appears wavey, which is not uncommon for gold coins of this era. Krause book values are $150 in Fine and $200 in Very Fine for a 1/2 Zecchino and $125 in Fine and $200 in Very Fine for a 1 Zecchino. Wholesale is usually half to 2/3rds the book value.
