Has anyone noticed any toning? I have a handful of coins that were removed from the philly mint bag looking like this:

Let me know...

Yes, mine as well. I also noticed many coins with die polish just inside the rims at 4:00 and 8:00, very much like the SMS Washingtons. Like many other posters, I went through 1,000 coins last night (500 P, 500 D) and didn't keep a single coin. All went to the coinstar this morning. The jacket on the obverse seems to be one of the high points of the design, and almost all coins in my bags could be eliminated by simply looking for baggy speckles under a lamp. They honestly looked like they had been rubbed with an abrasive. The few decent strike coins without the terrible hairlines all seemed to have been struck again in a focal area post strike.:D I'd say this is going to be one of those years where the mint set coins have the best chance of yielding nice coins.

Out of 2 mint bags and a few rolls, I found maybe 4 coins that cut the mustard. I'm going to put the rest aside for my son when he gets older. If he can't make a million on the coins, he can always use all the coins as pocket change. I have two more bags but decided to leave them unopned so my son can enjoy it years from now... or hate me for it.

Is the toning from Die polish?

No. I think the toning is from a bad rinse. The coins were filthy. The die polish is evident on some of the coins just inside the rim in the fields.
