Baltimore Show Report

I cheated and cut/pasted because I'm too tired to retype it.

Here's my insignificant "take" on the show...

We arrived just a tad before 10 and waited for the doors to open. There didn't seem like many people there upon opening but within 2 hours the place was nuts to butts and almost like the annoying Cleveland show that seemingly takes place in a closet.

I went to Rick Snow's/Bret Palser's table and picked up a cool monitor CWT for 140.00 and looked at a bunch more without buying any for fear of blowing all of my cash by 10:15.

I submitted my quarterly freebie at PCGS and finally met Carol Jello. My son scored a sample slab there and at NGC.

I FINALLY got to meet TomB!!!! It was an honor/priviledge to finally meet him and see some of his pieces in hand. It wasn't long after that I got to meet Idahogal. Her eyes are even more mesmerizing in person.

My son and I walked the floor for a while. I think it was 11 am when he finally said "Dad, can we leave?" lol!! (we didn't leave til 4:30). Shortly after this we were walking down around table #150 and I noticed the dealer there had his finger BURIED in his nose for a solid 30 seconds. He wasn't trying to hide it either. I was just glad that I didn't see him eat whatever he found whenever he found it.

We met up with Ken and family, Merz, Tootawl, Idahogal, Dollars and Mrs.Dollars, Sadysta and we went across the street for lunch. I told my boy we "found the hippie" and Dollars was gracious and gave my son a PCGS DCAM Ike buck at lunch for finding the hippie! Thanks again Dollars!

We then went back to the show and walked around and bumped into some more members. I saw Tonekiller who almost converted me into buying a gorgeous BLUE proof jefferson nickel. I came close! I saw GSAguy "around" and also Wayneherndon and RKfish.

All in all the show was packed! There were people everywhere but I didn't see a lot of cash changing hands between the public and dealers. I did see one guy ask a price on something at DLRC and literally set the slab down and yelled something to the effect of "Your Joking" at the guy and walked off. He then walked back and made another comment. The guy at the table wasn't even phased by this.

My son got the new nickel and the newest state quarter. I offered to buy him an NGC PL or DMPL that some lady had several of at table 750? for around 50.00 each and he decided he didn't want one.

I went back to find Bret Palser to spend some more dough on CWT's and he and his tokens were gone.

We left shortly after that. It was good to see that many of the dealers appeared to stay this time through most of Saturday!

Great report. Thanks for sharing. That was cool of Dollars to offer up that PCGS Ike like that (neat contest).

Sounds like fun! I read reports like this and crave for Long Beach to come up again.

It's nice to read these takes on the show. It was a pleasure to meet you and so many other board members at one show, it's too bad I was too beat to eat lunch with you.

Nice CWT, by the way! smile.gif

Cool report. In reference to the above quote, are you refering to DMPL state quarters? I've never heard of 'em but it does sound cool if they do exist.

Good show report Goose! thumbsup2.gif

I found your comment about what happened with DLRC very intriguing. I would love to know what the coin was and the price they were asking for it. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

I say this only because I have done a good deal of business with DLRC over the years and have always found the quality of their coins high and their prices fair. I wonder if this may have been a case of someone trying to buy an above average coin at gray sheet prices? confused-smiley-013.gif

Glad you had a good time.

John

Ooops. Looks like I left the word Dollar out of the sentence regarding NGC PL and DMPL.

As far as the coin at DLRC, I tried to watch where the guy put it in the case and walked over after the fact and couldn't tell. I didn't want to seem rude and ask.

Excellent report, Goose. With phrases such as "nuts to butts" and visuals such as the dealer up to his second knuckle in nasal excavation, I look forward to further such reportage from your quarter.
