is this coin type the most open/spacious designed federally issued coin?

I don't know if they qualify as "federally issued," but there are patterns struck with one side being essentially blank (eg, J-131b, J-151b). A design doesn't come much more open and spacious than blank! smile.gif

Among circulation issues the no stars dimes and half dimes are quite spacious and uncluttered as are the flying eagle cents. The proportionately small size of the oberse stars on twenty cents give them an open look as well. My first choice, though, might be the 1836 Gobrect Dollars.

Were the Gobrecht no stars obverse and reverse ever paired together? cloud9.gif

How about the Ike dollar? Between that near-bald mellon head and the open space you could probably fit the American midwest! 893whatthe.gif
