Is the price for silver in USA ounces or Troy ounces. I have always thought it was USA oz., someone recently said it was Troy oz.. This is probably a dumb question but I would like to know for sure. :frustrated:

Precious metals are always measured in troy.....31.1 grams as opposed to 28.3.....

PS- Never a dumb question on these boards. Especially when they may make, or save you money....

As has been stated, precious metals are quoted as troy ounces, not avoirdupois ounces. A troy ounce is about 10% heavier than an avoirdupois ounce, however, a troy pound is lighter than an avoirdupois pound since there are only 12 troy ounces in a troy pound whereas there are the familiar 16 avoirdupois ounces in an avoirdupois pound.
