1881 3c nickel doubling, common?

2 posts in this topic

I have to admit that I do not know much about doubling but I purchased an 1881 3c nickel yesterday. Under 10x I noticed doubling on the second A in AMERIC(A). I looked at the coin some more and see doubling on the TES on States but it looks a bit like Die Deterioration/"Longacre" Doubling. (from what I have read, I am assuming this)

Is this common? I didn't see anything in the Cherry Pickers guide about it. Did I find something out of the ordinary or something very common. I tried to scan it but could not get in close enough to show the doubling.

Any help would be appreciated.

Dave
