Don't you just love early American coinage?!? Great stuff!

Your coin is 1824 O-103, which is very common (R.1). Bust half specialists (I am not one) will tell you that this is not 24/2/0, but rather 1824 overdate of unknown dates. Overton lists it as "1824 over a jumble of recuttings". Again, it is one of the most common 1824 halves, but it is still very cool to see and to own.

There is only one variety with this type of recutting. Your coin looks different than the image in Overton due to the die state.

Great info Dennis! thumbsup2.gif One of the most worthwhile books to purchase is Overton's Early Half Dollar Die Varieties. Great research! I always marvel at how he was able to get his hands on so very many coins to do such a thorough job.

Here's a link to NGC's Census for that variety:

Thanks for the information.... Also I know the value of these would be more than the redbook suggest.. They say all of the varieties are priced the same... even the 1924 regular date.. I find that very hard to believe that an overdate does not add any value to it according to them 893whatthe.gif893whatthe.gif... At any rate I will still be in great shape as I picked this coin up for $20.00 last year and it is a solid F and mabye a VF.. I just love the design on this coin as a whole.
