Need to find a retail value source for Modern Commems/ASE

10 posts in this topic

I've been saving cions for a long time and have started to put my collection in order. I have started to specialize in US Modern Commems and ASE. What I need is a way to value my collection. The only guides I can find in the book stores amd coin mags are the values of MS/PR 65. My collection is MS/PR 69-70.

Does enyone know of a price/value source that is more comprehensive. By the way, I have checked out the PCGS value list but it is incomplete.

All the prices I've ever seen are what I've stated above. This includes "Coin Values". The only place where I've seen current values for these coins is the Heritage Auction site but some of the prices seem out of wack. For instance, the Capitol Visitors Center $1 MS69 is being auctioned off at $300+ where PCGS shows it at $49. Why such a difference. I need a good authority to use, Any idreas?

Try Teletrade for starters. You can search their past auction results for realized prices (high bid plus their 10% commission). You may not find everything you have, and the prices may not all reflect recent sales, but it's a start. Other than that, I recommend monitoring sales of comparable examples on eBay over a period of a month or so. Keep a spreadsheet and record the prices. Soon you'll have a reasonable feel for the right "ballpark" you should expect.

The CoinWorld newspaper has a dealer wanted to buy coins section in the back of the paper that lists buy prices for modern commemorative coins. They usually are priced with the mint COA and packaging, but I have sold some coins that were slabbed. It will give you an idea of what the coins are worth. These are whosale prices and are usually somewhat lower that those seen on eBay, but it will give you an idea of what your coins are worth to a dealer.

Any price guide is meant to be just that -- a guide, and not an absolute buy/sell reference. Start with the PCGS price guide -- LINK. From there, search completed auctions on Teletrade and eBay -- this will tell you what people actually paid for the coins. Pay particular attention to the slab and grade -- raw will be dramatically different from PCGS MS70. If you're looking to price your coins, try to match the condition -- raw for raw, etc.

And if you have any in ANACS MS69 holders, be sure to click the link in my sig and see if I need them!

Hello NGC people. I'm normally at the PCGS forums, but decided to abuse your resources since the PCGS boards will be down this weekend.

For instance, the Capitol Visitors Center $1 MS69 is being auctioned off at $300+ where PCGS shows it at $49.

Coincastle: I find it hard to believe the Cap. Vis. $1 coin in MS69 auctioned for $300+. If someone paid that, please, find out who they are and ask them to purchase your and my entire collection. Are you sure it wasn't an MS70 -- or perhaps someone who lowballed the $5 coin?

Also, why the interest in collecting Silver Eagles?
