Here's a cool FLEAGLE I just bought!

A neat variety, that is not noted on the holder. Snow 16. This variety is actually called a MPD. On Early die state specimens there are what are believed to be digits within the eagle. Sorry but I cannot find a pic of an EDS example for you to see.

This piece is graded AU58 (my favorite grade!) and I picked it up for 225.00 which I thought was a pretty good price.

I am not sure what kind of premium these S16's bring but I have snagged a few of them on ebay and have seen them listed for auction occasionally by sellers not knowing what they are.

This pic is what the seller sent me.

It's a 58 because of the bow. I don't know about varieties on F.E. Cents, but I like the obverse strike; it's all there. It's better than what you'll find on some 4s & 5s. Nice find.

Here's a closeup of the MPD's. The "1" is hard to photograph and would be at the bottom of the eagles beak. The arrows point to the bases of the "857", with evidence that the RPD was done twice (the base of the 5 is seen twice).

The retained cud in the wing is interesting. Larry Steve and I spent some time at the FUN show talking about this. The terminology is confusing because the thing which is retained is in the die, the effect of which is seen on the coin. It is therefor counterintuitive to call something on the coin a "retained cud". Be that as it may, that is how the terminology is used and I probably won't be able to change it.

my pic is like looking at it in hand. Quite a difference between the seller's pic. The reverse has some tiny pin scratches that are visible in his photo which may or may not be the reason it only made AU58. I really like it!
