1854 Half

3 posts in this topic

I have a 1854 half that is probably in fine condition, the only drawback is that it has been holed where the mint mark should be.

1. Is there any diagnostics in which I can figure out what mint it was minted at?

2. Will NGC Slab it?

I'm just curious as I'm going through my collection and wondering what I should do with the coin.

I also have an 1858? 59? (only the top of the date is showing)...in good? condition.. not sure if I should keep them, sell them on the 'Bay of E', try to have them slabbed or just keep them as some of the older coins in my collection.

Input is always appreciated... unless you make fun of me smile.gif

You can try to match it yourself to the Wiley/Bugert book on Seated Halves. With such a large mintage for both Philadelphia and New Orleans, this may be a bit challenging.
