long-term (6 months to several years or longer) storage of raw coins? 2X2's, flips, albums, anything I am missing? Different storage for different metals?

Suggestions?

Thanks! wink.gif

I'm in Denver and you are in Vegas. Both arid climates and yours more so. I've used flips and have never had a problem here. Humidity is usually around 20% or so in Denver. Also depends on 'what' you are storing. 2x2's are fine for inexpensive circulated coins, but for uncirculated coins I would go a different route because the little paper particles can damage the surface of the coin. I recommend inert flips.

Sanmary, thanks for the advice. I was born @ Fitzsimmons and raised in Evergreen. Left in the early 60's. I remember sitting on my Grandparents porch on S. Franklin across from the high school and watching the sheet lightning storms! Really enjoyed those! Denver ain't what it used to be (but then neither is anyplace else for that matter!).

Tom, I have a bunch of pr cents, nickels and dimes in Kointainers. The problem with them (and as you say, learning how to open them) is a storage medium. They are all just tossed in a jewelry box drawer. Is there any type of album that will hold these?

I put each Kointain in its own 2x2 inert plastic flip. In this way they are organized much like 2x2s are, however, when I want a close up look at the coin I simply take the coin out of the flip and examine it.

Gotcha! Double protection! It is a shame Kointainers doesn't make albums for their over-sized "contact lenses". A Jefferson Kointainer just fits into a 27/32' hole and have toyed with the idea of reaming out a reg Jeff album to this size to see if they would stay put in it. Haven't gotten around to it yet though.

I might email them my thoughts! 893scratchchin-thumb.gif If they like the idea, I'll be able to invite all forum members to Vegas for a weekend on me! crazy.gif Hmmm. Maybe not a good idea. blush.gif

Yep, I'm going to whip out my Dremel and ream out some holes to see if it works, then submit the pics to Kointainers for a "piece of the action"! grin.gif

Yea, right. frown.gif

If it ever comes out, they'll just say they thought of it first. 893frustrated.gif
