Lot of 4 Counterfeit Coins from China

19 posts in this topic

I bid and won a lot of 4 counterfeit coins from China and they arrived yesterday. On hand they look real nice and you can tell that there is something strange about them when you examine them closely (especially with a loop). Here's the pics from the auction of the lot. cool.gif

Yunan 7 Mace and 2 Candareens

I like the 1916 Yuan Shih Kai Flying Dragon design and I cannot afford to pay the price for a real one. These were sold as fakes and I don't have any qualms on getting examples of nice coins (be they fake) at an affordable price. cool.gif

Gotcha.

I thought there was some kind of law against selling fakes that were not prominantly labeled with the word "copy". Guess the long arm of the law does not extend to China.

Who's the guy on tht front of the Flying Gragon, maybe Sun Yat Sen?

JamminJ, the guy is Yuan Shih Kai. For about 3 months he was a self proclaimed Emperor of China and the coin was for his shortlived Hung Hsien reign.

gmarguli, I saw a PCGS slabbed one go for about $1300 on ebay MS63. And a raw one in Asia go for around 800 Euro. Found the links: cool.gif

I did not catch that copper pattern. Unless I can examine the coin in hand, I would be wary of buying these coins as there are quite a lot of counterfeits out there. frown.gif

Yes there is such a law but like you say our law does not apply in China. However it also makes it illegal to import unmarked copies into this country. So the buyer here who has the fakes shipped in is the one who has committed a criminal act not the seller. So in this case it is Trozau who has broken the law.

I bought some fakes from China (earlier post) which were kind of interesting. I showed them to one of my in-laws who is from Beijing. Didn't tell her they were fakes at first so it was kind of interesting analyzing the coins from that angle.

In that case I guess I'll throw them in the incinerator. shocked.gif

I like counterfeits and problem coins for the simple reason that I can display them in my house and not worry about them getting stolen. If someone steals fake or damaged coins I spent $20 on, it's no big loss.

I don't think I'll ever display anything that costs more than $50.

I hate problem coins because it's so difficult to sell them later, but I love counterfeits, especially these great designs in BU. Smart move from trozau. cool.gif

I usually avoid problem coins, but they make great display pieces (unless someone knows where I can get cheap counterfeit Pan Pac, California Diamond Jubilee, and other half dollars).

I have a few counterfeits just because I think they are interesting, especially the really bad ones, and consider them exonumia. There are a couple Chinese coins that were struck at the San Fransisco mint dated either Yr. 25 or Yr 26 (there is a discepancy between books) that I would like to find nice replicas of, since the originals were destroyed and only patterns still exist.

How much these coins cost?I think these coins should be plating silver,Maybe you can buy a lower grade authentic coins, but not a nice fake.

Fake coins have no worth

There's an artistic value, and in case they have the same silver content, an intrinsic one too.

For the same kind of amount, and judging by the prices of unc examples posted, except for the Trade dollar, his choice would be limited to, 893scratchchin-thumb.gif, let's say something between VG details, cleaned, scratched, corroded, polished, glue reverse, net PO1 or a Fine details, holed, polished ,artificially retoned, net PO1. yeahok.gif
