New here and have a question

17 posts in this topic

Hi;

I'm new here but not to coin collecting. My question is how do you get PR70/MS70 grades with the average that David Hall of PCGS gets? On Ebay (user name dhrc) as of late 25-35% of the coins he lists are perfect.

Why when I send in the mint type coins to grade the come back 68's?

Is it my grading or my last name?

Does this bother anyone else?

YoYo, first off, welcome to the boards!

As for your coin question, if you realize the access to the kinds/conditions of coins DH has, I don't think you should be surprised as to what you see from him.

Story they tell: We pay strong prices in the open market. However they admit that eBay is a loss leader, so why dump PR70s there? confused.gif Doesn't make sense.

Story that I've heard many times from several people: You need to cut "special deals" with large submitters of moderns.

What bothers me is that the guy who controls the grades sells those same coins. David Hall is a lying scumbag and it should be in the mind of every modern PCGS coin buyer that this is the case.

First thing I learned in coin collecting: If a coin dealer opens his mouth, it's not going to be the truth. David Hall owns stock in PCGS, is a member of CU boards and a director of coin grading services. DHRC is a subsidiary of Collectors Universe and is a collectors/investors arm of the company catering to coin collectors. DHRC says he buys high grade moderns from other companies. While I do believe this, I also believe his company submits multitudes of coins. Collectors Universe also issues a price guide for modern coins, which have wildly inflated prices for modern issues. So here's my point:

David Hall manages DHRC, manages PCGS, manages the price guide, manages the hype. So, doesn't this sound a little too cozy?

If you go to his website, you will see why he's the biggest shyster of them all. Just about everything on that website is priced for sucker money! For example, check out the price he's begging for this coin. It's not worth a 5% of what he has it listed for. 27_laughing.gif Take a look at the pictured 1947 Jefferson PayCGS66fs. From the picture, I can easily see a weak strike, a carbon spot and a finger print above the Monticello. I wouldn't pay 25 cents for that coin but he's asking $975 893whatthe.gif

The man is a POS to the numimatic hobby of coin collecting. The fact that thousands of collectors have lost millions due to the registry hype will soon become a telltale tail will never forget. How many dealers out there are informing the clueless collector the truth to why the value of a coin has shyrocketed in value? That it's due to the registry hype! He doesn't give a dammn about anyone else but himself. This is just the kind of SOB they found holed up in Iraq. 27_laughing.gif

A) Buy your own grading company

B) Send your coins to ACG, NTC, or PCI

Those are my best ideas for now. I'll keep working on it grin.gif
