Let's get right down to business:

-001 1913 TYPE 1 5C MS 62

1913 Buffalo Nickel, cracked out of an ACG MS63 holder. I'm starting a collection of Buffalo nickles and figured I would test my skill. I thought this had a chance for MS65, figured a 64. I was surprised with the MS62 but figure it's going to help me a great deal in learning the series better....Alas, a holder upgrade from ACG to NGC smile.gif

-002 1955 D 25C MS 64

Part of my Washington Quarter Collection, leaning towards having them all slabbed.

-003 1990 S 50C PF 69 ULTRA CAMEO

For some reason, I just tossed this coin in. I figured a 68/69 so I'm more than happy with the results

-004 1885 S$1 MS 64

-005 1885 O S$1 MS 64

I am grouping these together. This was a crack out test for me, to see how my own grading was.

-The 1885-O was cracked out of an ACG MS63 holder. My feeling was it could have graded the same or a tad bit lower. I wasn't happy with the "toning" on the reverse as it looked like something was spilled on it. A better holder and a better grade!

-The 1885 was cracked out of a old PCGS Green MS63 holder. This was a beautiful example of a Morgan, almost proof like! I felt this would definately upgrade, possible MS65?

I'm happy with the upgrades but at the same time, confused as they were graded the same. Wondering if I send in the 1885 alone, might it get a better grade? Perhaps NGC thought I was sending them both in at the same time and they gave me equal grades?... well, far-fetched but... The 1885 should have received a * compared to the 1885-O smile.gif

This order was completed a day early, I'm hoping to get my other grades on another invoice tomorrow. No complaints here! just a few questions that I will probably be able to answer myself when the coins are returned.... Did I miss something on the 1885?... hmm.

Not having seen this coin my guess is that it is actually AU but graded up to MS62 due to eye appeal.

I'm curious. I always ask this of people when the get their raw coins slabbed: Why do you want them slabbed? Are you going to sell them? Otherwise why waste the money? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Just curious... laugh.gif

I can't disagree with you as I'm just learning this series. I didn't see any wear on the buffalo's Calf or shoulder although the Horn wasn't as crisp as I have seen (strike?). There was no wear on the Indian's cheek, the braid had some wear but I chalked that up to strike. I'm talking about something I'm not too familiar with but in my opinion, it had great eye appeal... you may be right smile.gif

I've been leaning towards having them all slabbed as right now they are in a Dansco album. I have no plans to sell them but who knows what the future may hold. I do have some extra/doubles...stray coins I'm hoping to sell in the near future though.

Dakra,

As far as your washington's are concerned,I think in my past grade's (returned), if they have more lustre then other's they take that into consideration. And also, i feel you are on the right track as far as eye appeal.

BTW,congrats on the grade's!!!!

Dave - sounds like you had pretty good luck overall, especially with the Morgans. As for the buffalo, it's a tough series for most to get to know. Lots and lots of looking will do! laugh.gif

I also like storing my coins in slabs or albums or some place where I can't get my grubby hands on them! insane.gif Slabs offer the best handlability (is that a word?) and its a nice convenience.

Cherrypicking ACG slabs is a real sport! It's one of my favorite things to do, although I have had very little luck! 27_laughing.gif I have better luck cherrying raw material and PCGS slabbed material! shocked.gif ANACS material can be a wonderland of potential upgrades as well, but you have to have the coins in-hand. Keep it up and good luck!

I'm very satisfied with the results, my main reason for sending some of them in was to determine if my grading was up to par. I'm getting better but the two Morgans I sent in leave me with a bunch of questions that I'm not going to be able to answer until I look at them again. Maybe on the one that I thought was PQ, I missed a mole on her chin? smile.gif

I'm very psyched (sp) about the whole thing!

This might help:

The "S" means areas that normally have strike problems. The "W" is where to find the wear.

Basically, look for a "plateau" of wear on the Buffalo's arse. This is the first place you'll (usually) see wear for a high end AU (ie AU58).

Hey, That's the desktop wall paper on my computer! How did you get that?.... Actually I think it was you who gave me that about a month ago. It's been extremely helpful... although I have to admit, I haven't found anything of quality recently.

...and closing out my first few submissions:

001 2001 S 1C PF 69 RD ULTRA CAMEO

-Not bad for something that has been in a flip for 2-1/2 years

002 1981 S TYPE 1 5C PF 69 ULTRA CAMEO

-Ironically, this one was sitting on my "coin shelf" for quite some time. I had to give it a quick dip to remove the dust and spotting.

003 1942 P SILVER 5C MS 66

-Nice! Totally unexpected.

004 1955 25C MS 64

005 1956 D 25C MS 64

006 1957 D 25C MS 62

007 1958 25C MS 62

008 1959 25C MS 64

009 1959 D 25C MS 64

-I know one of these came from my Dad's collection of circulated quarters, I just wish I remembered which one foreheadslap.gif Say, what company makes a good 1932-> present "slab holder"?

I have only (2) ACG coins, both Kennedy DCAM proofs, that I think make the assigned grades. However, I have had some luck with cherrypicking ICG slabs. I have attached a MS64, NGC, 1924-P, Saint that was in a ICG MS62 holder when I bought it at a coin show.

Very nice coin! and congrats on the upgrade. I haven't ventured into gold yet but I know before I think about venturing into gold, I'm going to read up as much as I can about it.
