I found this in a plexiglass proof set. I was sandwiched between two other pieces of plexiglass and held together with scotch tape. I'm gonna try to put some business strikes in it and see what happens.

That's pretty cool. I would think, however, that it wasn't the Plexiglass that caused the toning. Rather, the environment that the Plexiglass was in was the likely culprit.

Here's one I paid through the nose (and then some) for recently - I just couldn't help myself:

I got to see this coin at FUN and that is an accurate picture of it. It has amazing obverse color. Really nice!

Every once in a gray moon I'll look into ebay for some toned coins. Just went through a few pages of toned silver dollars and WOW! I really feel for you silver dollar collectors and thank God for thumbnail pics! How does a 1880-S and 1971-S get the same toning? Ebay needs to hire some outside profesional help and start a catagory for AT garbage. 27_laughing.gif

I hope you aren't suggesting that this quarter is AT. It is mint set toned and completely natural. Having examined the coin closely I have no doubt it is real toning. Now, the grade of MS67 might be off 4 points in my opinion, but the toning is fine.

Greg, that's impossible - the current grading scale doesn't include the MS71 grade. grin.gif

No, not in the least! Mark's quarter shows what original toning looks like. Very nice coin Mark! (I thought there was something missing from my post when I posted. foreheadslap.gif )
