FUN was fun - Bought a Nice Toned Morgan

11 posts in this topic

I was at FUN all week - Had a great time - (I'll try & do a summary of my impressions - but can't right now) Decided to buy coins other than FEs, IHCs and coppers, so I bought the attached Morgan Dollar - has a "little" bit color - but its not the nicest one I bought - that one's in for grading - (It's a godizilla shocked.gif)

I'm new at this digital camera stuff, so I'll try & post a couple of pictures - (the coin is much nicer than the pictures!)

Another picture of my Toned Morgan - the 1st image above is a bit dark, but shows the color saturation on the coin - the colors are actually much more intense- from left to right there are rainbow bands of color: Emerald Green, Blue-Violet which changes to Reddish-Orange, Orange, Yellow, then Ice Blue and then Salmon - the reverse is very PL, which intensifies the colors as it is rotated in the light -

Here's another picture - this 2nd picture shows the colors better, but neither picture looks as good as the coin.

Great looking Morgan! If the other one you bought is as you claim (and I'm sure it is), it's gotta be a spectacular piece! thumbsup2.gif

Ooh La La!!! That is one georgeous Morgan! Is the obverse as nice as the reverse?

Unfortunately the obverse is white - if the Obverese were as nice as the reverse the coin would have cost me 2-3 times more than I paid for this coin - I did buy a nice toned raw Morgan that has a small rainbow crescent on both the obv and rev, but the rainbow is nowhere near as nice as the coin I posted. I also bought a GODZILLA obv toned Morgan that is currently in for grading at NGC - The colors are really nice - I needed a bib just to look at it - I didn't intend to buy it as it was quite expensive, but the more I looked at it the more I just had to possess it & I collect proof Indian cents, not toned Morgans!

About a year ago I wrote an article for the Longacre Journal on collecting Ptoof Indian Head Cents. Some toned proof Indian head cents look nicer than the Red IHCs. Here's what I wrote about buying nice toned coins:

"I would highly recommend acquiring at least one example these beautifully toned bronze proof Indian Head Cents, as they tend to be what I refer to as “Wow” coins - when you pick one up and look at it, your first reaction is “WOW!!”. I always try and buy “wow” coins when I see them , but unfortunately, they are sometimes just too expensive - the added beauty of these colorful BN proof Indian Head Cents is that they are actually affordable wow coins! (Dealers often refer to wow coins as “monsters”, “Godzilla” and other superlative terms that usually mean “lots of money” if you want to own it.)"

Both of the toned Morgan Dollors that I bought at FUN are "WOW" coins - so I took a deep breath - and bought 'em. smile.gif
