Hi

I have a question about a text thing I don´t understand that I found in the World Coins Catalog.

When I look at the coin KM 54 from Yugoslavia I see that it´s a gold coin from 1968,but there is a "NI" on the second row.

Can anybody please tell me what they meen with that.

Hi,

Welcome to the coin forum. I believe the 'NI' refers to the designer's initials. All the 1968 issue KM 50-54 have this. If you look at KM78a, the coin has a similar page format with 'ZM' next to the date. "Inc. Ab." means 'included above' in the mintage figures.

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

You are right it´s a signature I have the KM78 and there is a ZM on the backside.

With your help I found the little "NI" on my coins from 1968.

Sincerely L.Mitrovski

Was doing some research, and discovered this buried thread. I know thread necromancy is taboo, but I thought it would be better to set the record straight. The NI on some of the 1968 (AVNOJ) issues is not the designer's initials, but rather it is the mintmark of "Numismatica Italiana", a private mint in Milan, Italy. There are 2 varieties of the 1968 issues, those minted in Milan that have the NI "hallmark", and those that have no "hallmark, which were issued by the mint in Belgrade (Topcider).

The 1980 Tito Memorial issue was struck by both the mint in Belgrade, and also by a private mint "Zlatara Majdanpek", located about 200km ESE of Belgrade.
