a better date trade dollar pcgs ms64 super nice high end ms64 with an original thick skin white or toned

that would be a totally monster undervalued coin and plain RARE!!!!

a really nice original looking above average cameo strongly mirrored copper nickel indian head cent in proof 66 a real 66 and not one of those dark spotted streaked coins most probably an 1862 which is okie as long as it has the as struck look/color a silvery color with a light tannish hue like it looked when it left the dies .............................. wow!!

this would be a really good rare coin not usually seen with excellent potential.

a really strongly cameoed high end proof 64 trade dollar with amazing eye appeal

now that is a really good scarce coin!

I would go for as many branch mint Saints from the 1920s as I could, probably a 26-S, 24-D and 22-S in that order. For $5000, I should be able to get at least two of them in MS-60 to MS-63.

There are some really appealing high end Buffalo nickels (not nickles, heh heh) with awesome toning in this range. I might go for one of them, or for a proof example, although many of the nicest ones already exceed this value.

Although early gold has seen a big price rise recently (especially 18th century and MS coins), early choice circulated half eagles can still be acquired for less than $ 5000. I find these coins quite remarkable.

That's were my $$$$$$$$$$$$$ would go!

I hope this doesn't sound trite because I'm not mentioning any particular coin, but it's not. I don't think.

I would go with ANY copper or silver coin that is a rarity 6 graded AU up to whatever that has an interesting history.

With 5-G's, I'd like the best cameo'd example possible for the money of an 1885 Morgan proof dollar. But, then again, I'd also take an 1885 Trade dollar of any condition for the same price. smile.gif

If it were $5000.00 for one single coin I suppose I would have to go with a nice NGC MS-65 Red 1909 S-VDB Lincoln cent. Pcgs is O.K. but I feel their grading standards lean a bit more toward the market side of grading than the technical. When you get right down to it a coin either meets the criteria for the grade given or it doesn`t ! thumbsup2.gif

I know! I know! I would buy me one of those pop top pcgs PR 70 kennedy halves and put in my registry set! 27_laughing.gif

Seriously, I would like buying a close friend of mine's FS Jefferson collection but 5 grand wouldn't cut it! frown.gif

I like the responses and will add superb, matte proof coinage.

A nice problem-free 1793 flowing hair cent - chain in G6 with a nice problem-free planchet or a wreath with the same kind of planchet in F12! smile.gif I'd also love an excellent PF66 T1 buff with a GREAT strike and nice color! cool.gif I'd take an 1848 CAL quarter eagle in any problem-free lower grade (G4 or 6?) for 5Gs! grin.gif

Michael,

As you so well know,The are so many wonderful coins that you can buy for less than $5000.

I will name five that I treasure and few will think of: a type 3 PR67 Cam Trime; you can buy 3-5 PR67 3CNs. a beautiful 1837 MS66 LS no stars half dime; a MS 65 1865 double date 3CN; a PR66* target toned R6 Standard pattern quarter; any of these coins or groups of coins while produced in small mintage and often melted for content (trimes) are available and if selective and patient can be had in collector eye appeal with change left over to buy another coin.
