New and better Pics of the 1914 - D Lincoln cent...

Hard to say from the scan but the fields look very mark free. Usually you would find more ticks and dings. This date has been very heavily counterfeited. Here is a scan of my fake. The detail is f-vf but it is weakly struck-typical of struck copies. The fields show virtually no wear, which would be unusual for a vf coin.

Your coin looks great. If it is genuine I would grade it AU. The wear that you see, I think, is just a slightly weak strike. Definately send it in. NGC and ANACS are great at detecting counterfeits.

I am sure I'm mistaken, but when I first saw the first picture I thought, 'that D looks fake.' I am by no means an expert on this series, but I honestly and objectively thought that first off. Like I said though, I'm sure I'm wrong. Send that sucka in!! popcorn.gif

I went back and compared the D with others from that series... seems to be in line with them all... and in the set I am working on there are many that have clean fields yet would only get a VF 20 or so.... but we will see when I send it in..

That's really the problem with some of the key Lincolns, there are so many fakes and altered dates out there. I started my set when I was 10 or 12, so it's been well over 20 years, and in the last couple years I finally added a couple, so I am down to the 09-S VDB, 14-D and 22 plain. But for each of those, I will likely buy a slabbed one and crack it out for my album, just to be more sure!

Definately buy only certified key dates . Besides the 14-D, I also have an 09-S, 09-S VDB and an 09-S IHC that are fake. These all came from one collection. Luckily I didn't buy them, just sent them in for the collector.
