Interesting but neat way to store coins.....

4 posts in this topic

I was thinking of ways to store raw coins.. I used to have some in the pages .. but that seemed to get a few contact marks on some of them even being safe.. So then I thought about trays(like the coin shop type).. but that takes up to much space in a small safe... So while on vacation I was looking in a junk shop and saw a metal container that was used to hold photo slides... Well it so happens that 2 x 2 flips fit in there as well... the one I got will hold 150 2 x 2 holders ... The one i got you can even label the coins.. This keeps the coins far enough apart from hitting each other.... Here is a photo of what it looks like... I just think this is an inovated way of storing coins for cheap.. the case was like about 5 bucks...

I've been using the slide boxes for a long time and like them. Work great for 2x2's. I have one or two for each denomination with labels on the ends so I can pull the right one to look at. Most of these metal slide boxes are the same sizes but there are square and rectangular ones. I use the rectangular ones. Both hold 150 2x2's. I have one made out of tweed like suitcase material with bakelite drawers, looks like a small make-up suit case. Has 4 drawers that slide out. It holds 200 2x2's and can be carried by the handle. This one dates to the early fiftys. Neat to carry around and doesn't look like anything spacial. One would never know it has coins in it.

Happy collecting!
