I think I like the thrill of the kill...

I've been getting back into collecting and there are a lot of neat coins out there. I have decided to focus on Silver Eagles; Walker, Franklin, Kenndy Halfs; State Quarters. Over the past few months I have acquired quite a few PCGS and NGC ones. However I am beginning to believe that my excitment seems to lapse once the coin is stored in the box. To be honest I have not taken them out to look at them once since I got them. I have only taken them out to show my friends who want to see my latest acquisitions. So here I have dozens of slabs stored away collecting dust while I drive miles and miles, surf to endless hours of the night and read about my next target purchase. It is not just coins, but N scale model trains and 1/35th scale military models. I have hundreds of trains and dozens of unbuilt kits just sitting in my hobby room. Yet I still add and add.

I think I am attracted to the collecting and not the collection.

I go through phases myself, however I always periodically find time to enjoy my collection. There will be times when I mostly buy/sell, then there will be times where for whatever reason I do not purchase or sell much and spend more time enjoying my coins. For me, a coins beauty can become stale if looked at everyday. It's nice to put them away for a few weeks or a month and when pulled-out the initial beauty remains...for me anyway.

I went on a 1/35 scale model buying binge one year. I built 1, bought 2, built 2, bought 3, etc. This went on for four years!! 893frustrated.gif I built over 200 aircraft and tanks, but bought more than 300 kits. 893whatthe.gif One day, I went into the car garage and heard the model kits tell me, "build us or sell us". confused.gif So ebay came into the picture. Sold over 200 kits for about $250 more than what I had paid. Some model kits were held so long, they became collectors items. grin.gif I guess I collected over $5000 in sales off of ebay, and that's for ones I didn't want. It comes in cycles. However, my coins will die with me. makepoint.gif

I understand what you mean. The prcess of acquiring coins are more exciting than looking at your acquisitions...just like gir..oops blush.gif

But I still enjoy looking at my coins frequently....much enjoyable than looking at my wif..oops blush.gif

Well, if you feel boring looking at your collection, how about collecting coins by type or collect toned coins?

I was trying to collect seated half dimes by dates and mintmarks, but I kinda felt it boring to collect them all in white.

While collecting by type, you might find what you were truly looking for.
