Heritage Exclusive Internet sales....................

...a dumping ground for heritage, or are there nice finds to be had? I have always felt it was a dumping ground, but I just finished looking at the lots and there are a few really nice coins. Does anyone have any first hand experience with exclusive internet auctions?

For the most part it is a dumping ground. Lesser priced, lesser quality, and old inventory coins are in these sales. However, every once in a while a few nice coins will appear, especially if their regular sales get "filled up".

I used to find some GREAT deals on thier Ebay auctions. They were notoriously bad at Pics. All the toned coins came out as dark and ugly.I stopped checking because I figure some others found that to be the case and started running up the bids.

For me, it's great. Sometimes buried within the auction are treasures or good buys. Heritage will ship winning lots within 3 days and I get two weeks to pay. Not bad. thumbsup2.gif

My last three early commem.s have been from their auctions in the last two months. They ship extremely fast upon payment receipt. 893applaud-thumb.gif I only get one week to pay though? Wouldn't mind the two week deal.

I think their payment schedule is really based upon whom they are dealing with on the sale. Those times that I have bought coins from their Exclusive Internet sales they have shipped the coins immediately and not even invoiced me for several weeks afterward.

The quality appears to be all over the place for the coins. There are some truly stunning pieces that occassionally are sold, however, there is also quite a bit of generic, stale looking stuff that is offered. I have done exceptionally well on at least four coins bought from this venue, but that is based upon looking through their auctions for several years.

Ok...now I want Tom's deal. I guess because I've only been dealing with them for two months and my purchases are only generally between $ 75 and $ 250, that I gotta fork over the cash quick. That's ok with me. As long as I get my coins! grin.gif

It makes no sense for me. I've had rather expensive purchases shipped before payment and cheap lots held until I pay. confused.gif

From my own experience, I have found Heritage to be a great place to find what I was looking for (PR Jeffs). Bought quite a few from them. They now have a deal for purchases over $2500. For 20% down @ 1% interest per month on unpaid balance, you can take 6 months to pay. No pre-payment penalty and for non-dealers only. Payments must be at least 1/6 of the balance.

There are always going to be coins of certain types and runs that aren't very interesting to the high-grade collector. We must all remember that not all of us (including myself) can buy the best the first time out. Buying expertise is directly related to amount available to spend, the hole you want to fill and the knowledge to do both with what is offered.

They recently had a 1893-S Morgan NGC MS65 on their Internet Only Auction that did not sell. It went back to their current inventory with a BIN of ONLY shocked.gif 325K.

The bad part about this is that you can find credit cards with interest rates lower than 12% a year.

I have not only bought from Heritage but I have also sold some of my collection on Heritage. I have upgraded my collection by the coins I have found and have sold coins that were extras in my collection. I will admit sometimes they are a little slow in listing coins on there Internet Auction to be sold and you don't get paid for a month after the auction is over. My experience on the most part has been good though. I too am not a big money collector but I do look for the reasonable prices for nice coins which means I don't buy every week but when the timing, coin I need and financials are right I buy. I will also say that they are alot better than Ebay or Yahoo for selling coins of nicer quality and prices and bidders. To be honest they also are a little less on commission fees than Ebay. There is no auction insertion fee but just the plain 5% consignment fee. Ebay is a lot higher. Just my humble opinion.

I bid and win lots of nice coins from those sales every week. There is a good number of low quality coins, but there are plenty of nice coins as well. I wouldn't call it a dumping ground. Sometimes, if they don't have many consignments, there may be a larger number of lesser coins listed. But, thats not anything different than their regular inventory. You always have to look for the highquality pieces, in any inventory.
