  1. Ya that is way cool. Very nice find . Be careful not to drop it to hard with a crack like that one LoL, Funny you posted about nickels because that is what I am checking this morning for PL FS I have 2 new rolls of 2020 D and I am having a hard time finding any without bag marks... The new nickels are so sharp on the rims that they are cutting each other right out of the shoot at the mint it looks like. Also on the Denver nickel die the steps on the right must be worn out or greased up. they are gone. the first is a D the second is a P
  2. Thanks Coinbuf. I was not sure the return would warrant the cost. Even for a CAM it is not a lot $$$ on places like Ebay and or Heritage
  3. I am just not sure if they want the coins in the case for them to be removed professionally of if you have to remove them. I have a couple of those also Mr. Bill . One of my favorite years for Bicentennials 1975+1976
  4. It looks like something curved forced the metal back into his face his check bone and forehead looks extra high.
  5. So now the big question please ,to you members that have sent coins in for grading is. Should I send one of these old CAM sets in and have the coins graded individually. Does NGC break the set for grading or grade a whole set the way it is. I am guessing it will cost around $300 for 6 coins and would it be worth it. Any help on this matter would be appreciated. Thanks Jim.
  6. Thank you for your suggestion. I know the Bank don't want them back LoL...they are to big for them...The 1976 Ike's I put with my crazy 1776 /1976 collection I did put aside the 1972 Ike's for further investigation of the planet Earth in the background. I need a better reference than the one PCGS shows on there site it is hard to see and of course the coins always seem to wear more in that area.
  7. Its your thread. I say post stuff everyone here is so cool you get honest answers.
  8. It looks like the one advertised about, hard to say it is real scratchy maybe to cover up being tooled. But thats a lot of work to go through for something not worth big bucks.
  9. I have some mint sets that some of the coins have marks on them and they are in sealed plastic flat packs. So they don't pick the cream of the crop at the mint some members here have told me and the bigger coins are the worst for marks.
  10. Some fun facts I looked up. So you see I bought 2 of the 1979 sets . Well in 79 and 81 they had 2 types of mint marks the 79 box S mint die went bad after half the year so half way through they made a new die with a bolder looking S they started putting that on the lower denomination coins first then moved up to the bigger coins later on. So each of the 1979 sets are different one has the box S and one has the bold S on the small coins. Oh also the cameo backs are black on the 1979 coins except for one of the Susan's is blue on the back. You can see them here
  11. Ya I got to thinking about it last night. The guy at the antique shop I go to is a old coin collector and what if he got the set I bought along with the other 3 years in the Susan B Anthony years 1979 1980 and 1981 and what if they were all CAM What a set of coins that would be. LOL ....... Well Guess what.....................They are so I bought what was left...
  12. Ya I got lucky on that set. I may send it in to be graded. Does NGC do whole sets Or do you have to break it up??
  13. I took a shot just for you Hoghead. hope ya like it. The bird is way cool GW is not bad looking for a old guy.
  14. Yes many reasons, One I think many of the breaks are from a deep cutout in the die to close to the edge and after a while it just gives out.
  15. Ya Woods020 take a peek at my Chery pickers post .I got a whole bag of dime variety's and some die breaks . I sure am enjoying all the stuff you guys share. I hope you guys been liking my shots.
  16. Welcome to the forum. I am not a expert like some of the other members here and there are some really good people to ask. The coins were nice at one time but it looks like it has a lot of bag marks. Nice picture. Was that with a phone or a USB microscope.
  17. For you dleonard-3 .................I love them all for $5 ..Oh the scratches are on the plastic of the case it is in.
  18. I thought I would stop by my favorite cheap spot for coin sets and see what I could dig up today. I grabbed this 1971 set ,sorry it does not have a s dime but it was nice and a little CAM looking and for only $5 what the Heck. But then I saw this 1985 and every coin was CAM on both sides for $5 also. I am no big fan of Susan B Coins but when you look at this girl she is sweet and the eagle on the back with the black color looking space background is real cool. Let me know what ya think of the CAM please . JeeP..
  19. So I go to the bank today to get some rolls of quarters for my hunt and the girl says you saving weird coins Mister. I said ya what ya got and she shows me this baggy and wants to know if I want them.. So I took them off her hands. 2 ... 1976.....3..1971 and 7...1972 Nothing great but I had to take them home and at least give them a good look.
  20. You all know I roll hunt and it is scary how many of the new coins are all worn out already. The metal is so soft everything gets nicked and scratched, sad truth may be there will be no cherry picking in the future for coin hunters.
  21. Nice find. ya never know what you will find out there.
  22. This is great everyone is so cool here and to have others with experience checking out these errors I find. I hope you are enjoying this stuff as much as I am. It is not so much the coins are worth anything but the fact that there is something wrong there. LoL ..Through a regular hand held microscope these coins look wonderful. The microscope I use when zooming in real close will find the best looking of coins to have marks that look like the surface of the moon. I like it that way I can see for sure if a coin has FS or FT as for these coins the (nose scratch) was found on 7 different coins not always in the exact same spot and from 2 different years so the mystery is 2 deferent years of multiple die breaks?? or a machine the dispenses the coins and scratches them in the same spot for years on end. ???? So the first coin here is from 1997 and the second is from 1994 the only thing that makes me think it is a die crack is it leaves behind extra metal. I am no expert for sure but it seams logical that a crack in the die would allow the metal to flow up into it then leaving the extra behind after the strike. Look how the metal is on top of the E on the 97 but you can really see it on the outside edge of the 94 . Let me know what you think please. JP
