  1. I do have a question for those here familiar with the flat packs. This 1957 proof set has more of a modern shinny coat of silver unlike my 1963 proof set which is more of a flatter silver coat finish? Perhaps they were getting ready in 1963 to stop doing proof sets and just got lazy. Anyone have any thoughts on that???
  2. Ya Rummy13 I have always saved odd coins but this year I started buying proof and mint sets they are a cheap way for me to get into collecting. Maybe down the road I will find a deal on some of the bigger coins but for now I am having fun.
  3. Well my wife got me another present this morning that she put with my Birthday card now you guys can guess how old I am.
  4. Thanks for checking so there is no metal missing unless it is all copper we would think it is a copper/zinc coin 1982 had both types .I have heard that corrosion can also build up under the surface of the coin and change it's looks also. So we add more possibility's to the list LoL
  5. Ya thanks Mike. I know these sets are not big money returns, but I like them and we are paying less than there market price. Well Market price today!!! next week who knows LoL
  6. My wife got me a present today another silver set 1994. This is the sister to the other set I got at the same antique store. They have been in the same display case for years side by side . This one is not quite as nice as the 1996 set I bought it has a few more nicks and scratches but at least the family is back together again and on display in my place.. LoL
  7. You can also buy high end coins or special sets that have 90% silver coins in them.
  8. You can always google a coin question and sometimes get a good answer. I also have a tread in this same section as this thread called Cherry Pickers Post ,I look for errors on coins and members here are kind enough to give there honest comments on what they think it is . Some of the comments are a blast. It is great fun and very informative. You may see something that helps you out.
  9. I can say that the members of this forum are very informed and always try to give you there honest opinion. And yes damaged coins do get past the gatekeeper after a long week on a Friday afternoon after a liquid lunch or we would never have error coins to collect .I see many coins with odd looking surfaces. Like this wooden Penny. People do all kinds of stuff to coins your 82 coin looks like it was glass bead or sand blasted. Can I ask how much does it weight ??
  10. Look at this crack I just found on 13 Pennies I call it ... Up your nose Abe.
  11. If you look at my Cherry Pickers post you can see some types of coin variations. I am always looking for something ...
  12. Not worth $65 to find out it is worth 25c Yes it would be nice to know ? I have checked around it has been seen before but know one is quite sure about it.
  13. LoL.. very good assessment and there were no keepers, but it was still fun to look and pray for a nice piece.
  14. Someone must be cleaning house again ? What are the odds of finding 2 penny rolls from the bank today full of 1992,95,98,99,and 2000 pennies. Must have been a stash and got rolled up for cash...
  15. It is just good fun finding all the stuff that is out there, and on the chance you do find a keeper well ....YAHOO.... if not just keep looking on....Like this silly one? Is it for real or someone's handy work.
  16. Well look what I found hunting last night . I have not seen any of these in 11 years. People must have herded them all up in 2010 and put them away. Did anyone here save them???
  17. We I think you all know me by now always looking LoL.. So here is a fun find from a 2020 roll of new pennies out of 50 coins 10 pennies or 20% had this dot on them in the same spot.
  18. and No cuds or die cracks almost impossible to find , even this has a nick on the left but it missed the step
  19. Thanks DW . I Love the web link you posted that is a good one. I agree that it is a strike double not a double die. I see coins like this a lot it is just this one is very pronounced. Thank you for commenting.
  20. My wife said if I did a real good job grocery shopping and saved some money today I could get a treat. So I got this.
  21. I found this on the back of one whole side of a 82 P copper.. So Mr Watson !!! the Game is afoot.... LoL.. Look close is it Doubling or what metal workers call tinning..... when it gets beat-up on until it disfigures. I have looked at a lot of pennies that are just as banged up without this happening. I see no listing for a copper 82 LD DDR but they may be out there??? Like Me...
  22. Oh boy I just found a treasure in the back of my cabinet. A whole jelly jar of 1982 Pennies that have never been checked. Nice job for a Sunday night.
  23. Not enough of them around for everyone. I been looking every week starting New Years at different banks in my area these are all Tall Grass Prairie. Maybe I will find some when I go down south this year but from the sound of everyone here it don't seem likely.
  24. Hey Lem.. Question for ya.......Did you buy that coin graded, or have it done and if so is it do they label all coins that have variety's when you send them in? Or do you have to let them know you want it labeled ...??
