  1. Could send it in for a re-holder if it's an old slab or in bad shape. Piggy back on a dealer submission or someone else. It'll get imaged.
  2. I'm curious if someone could share what goes into keeping NGCs price guide up to date? On most issues I look up nowadays, it seems to be lagging behind the times. PCGS values are sometimes double for same grades. Looking at Morgans I find it interesting that some were last updated in 2019, some 2020, some in 2021 and then there will be a line where the prices got updated in 2023. I'm surprised somebody doesn't go through the list of a popular coin like Morgan dollars and update all pricing for the series at least once a year. If they're not getting updated what is getting updated?
  3. I had same issue. There's no way to plan out if somebody will be home to sign for anything when you're waiting a month and a half to get your stuff back. Mine went out for delivery on a Friday. I was at work when I got the Ring notification at 9:30. FedEx at the door. I talked to the guy over it and asked if he could come back at a later time and said he'd try back at that time as he was around all day. I left a little early and booked it to try to get home to catch him. He supposedly stopped by at 4 (even though Ring didn't go off) and I got back at 4:10 that day so I missed him. Re-scheduled for delivery on Saturday. That resulted in cancelled plans for Saturday because there's no delivery window! Could be 8:30 a.m.. Could be 4 p.m. Who knows but don't spend too much time in the bathroom or make a trip to grocery store because you might miss them. Anybody with a package to sign for should be able to track the FedEx vehicle it is in on an app and have an approximate 3 hr window of time at the bare minimum.
  4. I recently had a submission there. I sent an old half dollar with some scratches on it. I knew it would get VG Details but I sent it anyway just because I wanted it in a slab for my type set. Much to my surprise, it got "Altered surface" an NGC label as if it had been put in a slab with variety and sent back in a plastic flip. Had I known this would happen I would not have sent this. The only refund I got was for the scratch resistant slab fee. I sent 13 coins down and they spent the full 20 business days down there. They were all photographed except for a capped bust quarter that got an AU-53. I dont use the photo for the registry but it's nice for someone else to verify that it is the actual coin by photo on the site if need be.
  5. I'm here, I'm here! Albeit a little late to this party. The Good: The new NGC registry layout looks awesome on the computer. My main collecting goal is my US type including moderns. I have other interests but I focus on that one the most and I love being able to view it online and share it with others while still remaining anonymous. I enjoy coin photography as well so I'm very happy with how easy it is to upload your own pictures to it. Many coins take extra time to get good photographs of and it allows me that capability. The ability to add notes with coins, often for my own reference is another great aspect. As has been repeated many times, it's very smart to include PCGS coins as not all of us are only searching for the right slabs for our sets. Some scarcer coins I'm willing to get in either slab and makes me feel better that I can use in my registry. There's no point in having a harsh rivalry and not allowing them. It would only serve to anger people and likely not change anything. Needs Work: One thing that could stand to be changed is the ability for users to edit their own values in the blank spots. I understand that the system is unable to price details graded coins because every one is a case by case basis. Often times these are still nice coins that weren't free, that were chosen only to save a few hundred or even few thousand dollars, while still being a nice example that may still have been costly. As someone else said, many moderns are still missing. Edited values could be a different color and/or a different font to let the user remember over time. The values are a useful tool for the owner themselves and aren't seen by anyone else anyway so this should be an easy thing to add. If you're only able to edit the blank spots, I'd be happy. Next thing, as far as I know, I don't know that anything has been done to make it easier to use a nice banner link to the new registry pages that reflect accurate, up to date numbers. If this has to be totally re-done than it should be and with a new look and easier to use. What better free advertising do you have besides people willing to put a clickable link in their sig line below forum posts to share their collections with others? This should have been a priority and updated long ago.
  6. I was going to post the same. I feel the coin is likely accurately graded, even for todays standards. Just my non-biased opinion. The old slabs don't do anything for me. I'd rather have one like this in the latest slab because they're just better to me. But I am aware that there are a segment of collectors that collect these and assign more value to it for that reason. I respect that too. On a side note, we're seeing more and more NGC and PCGS slabs posted these days that have been opened, original coin replaced with fake and a new, fake label printed of an actual label from the database stuck into the now tampered with slab. These slabs and labels would have to be the easiest for fraudsters to duplicate nowadays having very little diagnostics to protect them other than knowing what the real coin looks like. Which these old ones will not have pics in the database. Just food for thought.
  7. It seems that there is perpetual lack of info on coin collections as time goes on. Only the collector knows what's what and then they die. Then anyone left is left guessing at the value of everything unless a computer program was kept to inform the inheritors. Understand that there are many coin collections out there. If I hear "sets in blue folders" my mind automatically switches to lower value because these methods of storage are not used by people assembling extremely valuable collections. Of course there are probably exceptions here and there but mostly these are used for worn coins from circulation. The black backing is not good on MS coins for long term storage. Most people are not going to stick 4 or 5 figure coins in one of these albums. They will be in a plastic slab more than likely. At a minimum you need to grab a red book and do some work to study what you have. Usually there's only a handful of key dates in any series. They can be extremely worn, cleaned pieces to fill holes. Sometimes even fakes used to fill holes for rarities. Many collectors don't have $1500 for a worn cent. Then the excellent condition ones will be anything commonly found and will not be valuable. Valuable stuff today was often valuable in the past. What did the owner have invested in it to be worth $43k today? Did they actually spend 40-50k assembling the sets over their lifetime? Some people do and much more. Most do not.
  8. Hi. Somebody brought up a great question on another forum pertaining to the increasing number of fake coins, fake slabs, real coins in fake slabs, fake coins in real slabs and fakes in fake slabs. Somebody questioned what would happen if somebody was able to successfully defeat a slab be it an NGC or PCGS and put a different coin into the slab? Are people in the re-holdering department looking for this stuff and/or catching any of this? Everybody is curious if people in this department are as qualified as the regulars in the grading room? I would view the attempt as a criminal act but of course the person submitting could say they didn't know if they were just trying to sneak one through. I think some would be very obvious with the slightest attention but some may not be so obvious. Some of the fakes out there are apparently getting pretty good. Maybe you guys discussed this and addressed it years ago? Thanks.
  9. I wouldn't say I'm in "a rush" but if there's a minimal amount you want graded, you can opt for what's proclaimed to be express service and supposedly know in a week or wait 4 months. I'd rather not wait 3 to 4 months for this particular order. There isn't much in between. It's more so the fact that you pay for an advertised service in an advertised time frame and that's kind of what you're expecting. If that's not what you're getting then you're overpaying for a service that's not as advertised. It borders on false advertising and seems to be a convenient "out" for however long it takes. Maybe I would have selected a service that cost half as much had I known to expect to be waiting anyway, even for express. This type of stuff doesn't get a pass anywhere else in life but since it's for a hobby, it's your contention that they should be given a pass no matter how long it takes? The service is expensive. People should have a right to know the actual facts about what they're paying for. At the least, actual wait times should be updated to reflect the mail back log. Somehow you can get traffic reports on the hour every hour with updated travel times to multiple locations in every city that you don't pay for. It seems like time frames "are a thing" to most in society. It kind of works like this for me. The more I pay, the more I worry about it. The less I pay, the less I'd worry about it because expectations would be less. If you haven't noticed, the prices keep increasing. Should expectations be decreasing?
  10. I love being able to have my sets viewable online any time from anywhere, while also being able to share with other people, but still remaining anonymous. It allows you to share your collection in a way that would never be possible otherwise. I enjoy looking at other peoples sets as well. Bringing back the PCGS slabs was a good move and I believe they deserve to count for points as well. As someone else stated, nice examples of some 18th and 19th century stuff are so rare, maybe the only one you can find that you like that's actually for sale is in a PCGS slab. So be it. Yes, you're selling a product but for the collectors the main focus is still the coin in the slab. The overall look of the registry and ease of use is very well done. I wouldn't bother using one anywhere else. The upgraded site blows away the old one.
  11. Well, express is supposed to be 6 days turn around time. Can tell you it's been there for 4 business days now and is not entered into the system yet. It's a very small order.
  12. The more I thought about this, I was wondering if you could elaborate further into what this means? Does it mean once the box is dropped off by post office at your in-house USPS facility or is the "order delivered to the building" once receiving has opened the box and delivered it to the next station/room? I noticed that my express box has been there a few days and it isn't entered into the system. Wondering if the express pile is actually just another, smaller mountain of boxes to get through that could still take a while.
  13. Yes, I wrote EX in bold letters on the sides. That answers my question though. Thanks.
  14. Hi, are express boxes opened and entered the same day or is there a delay on those too? Last I looked the turn around was 6 days on express. Is that from the day you get the box on those until the day it ships out? Or just 6 days once it's entered in system whenever that may be?
  15. One of the more common shipwreck coins out there are from the SS Republic. There are many very attractive halves available that could be used in registry sets. They get shipwreck affect instead of a straight grade and they're worth less than 200 points. Most of these coins were 5 to 7 years old or less when the ship went down and never circulated so they retain extremely nice details for the cost. I will probably add one to my set some day regardless of the point snub. I'd be fine with them being lower points than a standard graded version in same condition but the points hit makes them worth less than AU details to the registry. I think I experimented with one and it was worth zero. They're extremely cool and hope that NGC is willing to give them another look as far as the registries are concerned. They should be comparable to AU points at least.
  16. I look forward to a new updated Signature banner that can be easily used. This one works but it doesn't stay up to date for me. And I don't dare mess with it it on other forums or will lose it and not get it back. Maybe 2022 will be the year...
  17. 1x CC Morgan MS-69- $160 1x- S Morgan MS-70- $230 2x P Morgans MS-70s $230 Each. 2x D Morgans MS-69s $140 Each Price includes shipping. If somebody would be interested in all 6, package deal price is $1k shipped. One of the Ds has a tiny 1 mm vertical mark by olive branch on the reverse. That's the only flaw I can find on any of them. No damaged examples. I sent them back to the mint. Will accept check, money order, or paypal.
  18. Wow Bob, that worked! Thank you! Thanks for update Lisa. The 1687 label is pretty cool. I wish I could get that as an alternative. I know it says bulk submissions only but wondering if those are plentiful if that would be an option for the time being? I suppose you don't get refunded for the scratch resistant holders until the whole order ships?
  19. Hi I’m inquiring about a batch I have down there that was accepted 11/04. I checked the box for scratch resistant holders and while they’ve been sitting there waiting to be graded the email came out stating no scratch resistant holders for 6 to 9 months. I prefer them but it’s not a deal breaker. Just wondering when the cut off was as in who’s going to get the last scratch resistant holder and will my in process order receive them? I’ve been sitting on scheduled for grading for over a month now. And I can only post this from my apple phone. I can’t log into the chat from my computer again. Takes me back to registry page.
  20. The 2016 3 coin 100th anniversary gold coins got their own three coin registry set. I just put one together the other night. Why wouldn't NGC do the same with these? I really wouldn't care if one of these were added to the type sets. There's already anomalies like the Innovation dollars in there. It also accepts proof examples that were only made for collectors and not meant for circulation in every category in the US type. So it doesn't seem like a stretch to count one of these. But they should at least get their own set given some of the obscure sets that are out there.
  21. Do they have a mirror finish in the fields? No? Then they are MS "Mint State finish. All you have to do is look at the labels of the rest of them that have been graded to see that. If you're filling out the online form there's a column for mint mark. They will know what they are. Filling out the basics on the form is just a formality so that you can submit the order.
  22. Those are all PCGS slabs in those auctions. Depending on the coin and grade, some people are willing to pay much higher premiums depending on the TPG. I don't know if that's the case here and i'm not doubting NGC's ability to grade a modern quarter in MS67 properly but some people do. Just want to make a note of that. These are inevitably going to drop in value as they've only been out for a couple years. More will be found and the population will be diluted as time goes on.
  23. Lmao. I hope I get the chance to meet you some day Kurt. You're always posting something that makes me lol.
  24. Looks like they're up now already at the end of the originals' census pages.
