Alex in PA. reacted to J P M in Stupid question, But Is It Possible To Have....
Well I know I would be a tad upset if I sent a coin in for grading and it came back a MS - 66 so now it is worth less than the average 66 and if I have a coin I think is a 67 and send it in for a regrade and it comes back a 66 + It is not worth the regrade if I don't get that full bump between the 66 and 67. I am sure more than one person looks at a coin when there is a question but all in all I think it is to much hoopla and confusion.

There are plenty of excellent coin forums on the Web. A forum is only what you make of it.

As 70 supposedly equals perfect, it is not possible to have a 70+. This would indicate more perfect than perfect, which isn't possible under the current grading system.
NGC gives the Star designation to one sided cameo coins, so a PF70* is possible.

Not yet.....but as deterioration continues, such moronic oxen are likely to evolve.

I am still on the fence about the whole MS + and - thing . Coin grading is tough enough without adding a variation to it.

I think we are very helpful with the newbies. They'll absorb knowledge and if they have questions -- simple or complex -- most of us are willing to take the time to answer.
Bigger problem is newcomers who post here 1 or 2 times and then disappear.

JKK, you and so many others have done a wonderful job with newbies. I remind a few, a very few, about the 'What you need to know before posting coins for inquiry' thread that you started. The NN's that ask questions and then won't take 'no' for an answer, I think has been handled nicely. Sometimes it's quite humorous, like the person that was arguing about some coin, and Lange chimed in to help, saying that the coin was damaged The person finally said "I'll just send it in to get it graded". Lange responded, "Ok, I'll be looking for it when it comes across my desk". They didn't even bother to look at his title, much less realize that he was trying to save them the time and expense, doing it for Free. I'm more easily amused than the average person, but if that didn't put a smile on everyone's face, I don't know what would.

Alex in PA. got a reaction from zadok in Morgan Redfield Dollars
There's quite a few Redfield Hoard coins for sale on eBay. What the OP has is a non-Redfield.

It does have to specify "Redfield" to get that designation from NGC. Paramount had a lot of those holders leftover from the Redfield promotion, so it started inserting non-Redfield dollars into them. These, too, are collectible, but they don't bring the same premium as Redfield coins.

Alex in PA. reacted to RWB in Morgan Redfield Dollars
Lavere Redfield was a somewhat screwed-up hoarder of silver dollars, among other things. There was nothing special about the coins, and bags of some of the same still exist in private holdings.

well baack in the 70's and old guy named Redfield died.. the story goes that he hid almost a half a million dollars in his walls. when this hoard was found they decided to put them all in these paramount plastic holders. kinda like when they found all of the GSA dollars. anyway they put them in these holders and sold them. most i am sure arnt in these holders anymore. i dont give them any special premium just becasue some old guy hid them in his house walls. geesh just look through my house and you will findcoins hidden every wheere... hahahah maybe i should put them in a holder and sell them as "JT's hoard" would you give me any extra?

Coin pictures are a pain in the You know what. I just took some shots of the new Nickels I posted and there is no sun out again and it took all kinds of running around to get just the right light for a true color representation.

Funny thing, this coin looks better in hand than the sellers picture (below) and it was only $33 shipped

As I've said to the point of distraction: Without fixed standards, the concept of "grading" coins is specious. Five competent people are more likely to scatter grades than agree. Opinion plays too great a role for there to be statistical reliability or repeatability.
I now return you to the confusion.
