  1. I wouldn't be suspicious of a 5-figure coin just because it was in a "pre-TrueView holder". That strikes me as being paranoid.
  2. Not true - reholders used to be no more than that. That’s the problem when you use words like “NEVER” and “ANYTHING”.
  3. Some posts get far more attention then they deserve.
  4. “Their website”. I’m sure he meant the section which lists grading tiers and fees, etc.
  5. Member search: https://boards.ngccoin.com/search/
  6. I don’t think it’s at all spurious. It makes sense that a “+” sells for an especially large premium when there’s a substantial value difference between grades. Look at what a 64 and a 65 are each worth.
  7. That wasn't the case. NGC and PCGS were using grades in between 65 and 70 at the time the 1927 nickels appeared.
  8. That's my recollection. I saw one or more at NGC, while grading there. It was likely in the early 90's.
  9. Don't hold me to it, but I think that they appeared in an auction without fanfare. And that more than one dealer quickly recognized them as something out of the ordinary.
  10. In addition to being rude, your comments about his appearance are off topic.
  11. Submitters are happy, while most buyers aren’t. But none of this has much of anything to do with what billionaires tend to collect. I don’t even understand why you chose your thread title, unless it was just wishful thinking.
  12. I realize that the question wasn’t directed at me, but I was grading at NGC when at least some of the coins surfaced. I’m not positive, but I believe that the combined NGC/PCGS population represents the same group of just five examples.
  13. How do you come up with “supposedly, there are only 3...” when there are 5 showing on the NGC census report?
  14. The coins are worth approximately 10 cents, each.
  15. The coin looks to be genuine and approximately AU58. I think it would be a waste of money to get it graded and would say the same, even if it looked like an MS61.
  16. Bobby, appealing or not, the color doesn’t look natural, which is any I guessed questionable color/cleaned. I’m not picking on the coin, just trying to provide a hopefully-helpful assessment.
  17. I wouldn’t make such a statement, based just on an image. Whizzing and cleaning aren’t always apparent in images. And I can’t tell anything by viewing your avatar.
  18. Typically, when a coin’s been whizzed, it’s over the entire surface area. Since the process is used to simulate mint luster, there’s not really a good reason to alter just a small portion of the coin.
  19. I’ll go with Unc. Details, Obv. Scratched and/or Questionable Color/Cleaned
  20. I’m not sure what you mean by error “fanbois”. But there are numerous error collectors and dealers who are extremely reliable sources of information.
