  1. This guy was selling it on a radio control website classifieds forum and I tried to warn him that he was selling counterfeit coins. He replied on the website that he knows that they are real because the place he bought them from told him they were authentic. LOL He was asking $870 for this fake coin and after I told him it was fake he closed the ad stating that it was sold… You just can’t help some people….and probably shouldn’t even try. Lesson learned.
  2. Many years ago I sent a suspect clad error Roosevelt dime right to the mint for their analysis. I imagine the mint still provides this service if you can get to the right department or individual. They determined my dime was subjected to excessive heating. another possible avenue if you choose to explore.
  3. My point was once you start adding on extras then the number of coins to reach parity becomes smaller than just figuring basic certification tier cost. the $149 Premium membership works for me but I only submit few coins annually, maybe up to 8 or 10. good luck…
  4. Don’t forget the $10 per submission charge, upgrades to scratch proof holder, imaging, etc.
  5. That could make a good pocket coin…I have a beat up silver eagle that I normally carry around in my pocket. It can start a conversation or give you something the fidget with in a waiting room…the old knuckle roll. It’s a piece of history to carry every day.
  6. This is how my limited edition set was received today from UPS. Will this meet the criteria for sealed from the Mint or am I wasting my time sending it in for grading?
  7. Venmo and Zelle should be reserved for your very close friends, family that you trust. PayPal offers a bit of protection, especially when you fund your PayPal purchases with a credit card, not a debit card. If PayPal rules against you in a dispute, then your credit card company may help you get your money back in the event of a scam, etc.
  8. I had the same issue, many crashes and asking for downloads and pictures of trucks, etc. I was about to give up since it was at least 30 minutes after they went on sale when I got an email showing my order was accepted. Got the confirmation about 4 hours later and my credit card was charged. I have no idea which web order crash resulted in the sale. I got an email earlier in the morning from Pinehurst offering $400 for the set. I’m sure there were others offering premiums as well. This morning Pinehurst lowered the offer to $350 since there was an overwhelming acceptance of their offer. This business model is attracting flippers like blowflies. Collectors are being screwed over and forced to spend bigger bucks if they didn’t get the coin or set directly from the Mint. Just had to vent off a little steam. I wish there was some way that the Mint could screen out the flippers but I’m sure it would be impossible.
  9. Just wanted to get a few opinions on whether this coin appears authentic. I questioned its authenticity due to missing detail, absence of marks, and odd color. The seller claims it’s real because he bought it online from a coin dealer (really?). Not interested in buying it but wanted to get expert opinions.
  10. I recently found out that the NGC PO Box is actually inside their facility, not the Sarasota USPS office. This may allay your fears somewhat if it shows ready for pickup status.
  11. That’s true up to the point that the spot price plus the grading fee exceeds your original costs. If you bought your bullion at the right times (pre-booms) then your profits can absorb the grading fees. I’m a believer that air-tites along with proper environmental storage is sufficient protection for raw bullion. My certified sets are the only exception. As with anything, it boils down to personal preference and how deep are your pockets.
  12. I think this comment implies that the cost of certification versus the price of an ounce of gold in a bullion coin is a fraction of the net worth compared to a $30 TPG cert for a $25 dollar silver bullion coin. That is my take.
