Thank you Conder101 and Kirt for the intelligent rational posts.  I have started to reply several times, bit my tongue, calmed down and deleted before posting.  It is posters like you and several others who keep this place going despite the "distractions".  I've been collecting for over 50 years now, and it never ceases to amaze me how much there is to still learn, yet some watch a couple of youtube videos and become instant experts!

    Ok, one at a time:
I didn't state that both clad layers were missing; they're clearly present and environmentally damaged. That blackish toning is something that shows up on state quarters much more commonly than prior clad quarters; I have been extremely interested in figuring out why because there should be no difference; I'm also sure others are sick of me bringing it up so done with that.
Membership level doesn't mean anything except how much money you're willing to fork over to NGC.
Calling me rookie is accurate. I've only been collecting for 34 years or so. I have a ton to learn.
Checked by whom? There are tons of people with opinions about coins (including our hosts) and only some of them are worthwhile. You know what they say about opinions.
I'm sorry that you're either upset or unwilling to listen to what people are telling you; best wishes going forward with your coin.

The copper nickel alloy is more resistant to the action of the acid than the pure copper core.  That is why the core is eaten away faster than the outer layers resulting in the "sandwich cookie" appearance.  As to why the reeding is still visible, that is because the acid attacks the surface of the copper evenly.  It attacks the valleys of the reeds at the same rate as the tops of the reeds.  So as the diameter is reduced the reeding remains intact.  The very fact that the reeding is there tells you that it must be the result of an attack by corrosives.  Since the reeds are imparted to the edge of the coin by the collar the  copper core HAD to be at the same diameter as the clad layers at the time of striking and something has now reduced that diameter without  wiping out the reeding.  A corrosive environment is the obvious solution.

Lets put it in correct terms.  If it was a quarter planchet and both clad layers were missing (which they obviously aren't because you can still see all three of them) it would weigh 3.85 grams

    I pity your customers.

Says the man with 14 posts.  Yes, I know that's a cheap shot because the number of posts doesn't really relate to actual experience.  So how much experience do you have?  I have 54 years.

Checked by who?  What are their credentials?

Metal content of the clad layers is the same as the metal content of a nickel.

The coin you posted is NOT the same coin as in the coin in the OP.  Different coins, different forms of damage.

NGC Does not in my opinion have the worth to charge anyone for grading without assigning a grade. If you send a coin to ICG at least they will place a grade on your coin. Example: MS66 altered color. NGC uncirculated altered color! No GRADE! they suck

I appreciate that there are a spectrum of opinions on this. Ultimately it's up to the TPG how they want to handle it, and their customers should go into it understanding and accepting that. To me, "UNC Details" is mostly useless as a grade. It informs me that a professional grader decided that something unacceptable happened to the coin, but beyond that I'm left to grade it myself. I would much prefer to have a technical MS65 "lightly cleaned" than a straight-grade MS60 bag marked within an inch of its life. I have to make that determination on my own.

World's Columbian Exposition Award Medal Saint-Gaudens/Barber with original aluminum case. As I understand it, the case is rare and the insert card is even rarer. Most of the cases were lost, destroyed, or simply tossed out. The insert card from Scovill was almost always thrown away or dried up and fell to pieces. At least this is what was related to me by a couple of serious medal collectors. I'm pretty new to medals (less than a couple of months) and this is only my third acquisition.

Love the Columbus medal. But did they screw up 1492? The three Roman numeral calculators I tried say "MCDXCII".
    Here's my recent arrival.

It was something of a blood bath this week, I think the mods over there are of the young generation which values the safe space concept so they are quick to banish.  Like you both I appreciate NGC's more layed back stance, however that does have its own thorns from time to time as we have seen over the last week on the newbie question section with one unhinged individual.    But for the most part its far more comfortable here without the ax hovering over you as it is there.

Island Side Plantation was owned by the Jones family from 1908 to 1940. It became one of the former plantations which were part of a 1940 government project in which 10,000 acres were purchased by the government, and divided into parcels for resale. Former tenant farmers could apply for low interest loans to buy small tracts of the land.
Tokens were issued in 5 and 10 cent denominations. (I am still looking for a 10)

    South Haven, MI - Van Ostrand's Pharmacy, Brass, 21mm, 4.70g Circa 1912

Established around 1873 Van Ostrand's was one of the premier drug stores in Southwest Michigan, stocking all manner of goods including "drugs and medicines, paints and oils, toilet and fancy goods, and an elaborate onyx soda fountain". Probably a likely place in 1890 to pick up that off the shelf potassium cyanide you would need to clean your coins with (seriously, do NOT attempt) ☠.

History by Gil Hoffman: (Mississippi Rails website)
The Leaf Lumber & Veneer Works was incorporated at Leaf, Greene County on April 14, 1924, by B. E. Green, of McLain; J. C. Daughdrill, of Leaf, and H. M. Hempstead, of Mobile, AL, with authorized capital stock of $100,000. In early 1924 the company purchased the plant of the Overstreet Veneer Company, at Beaumont, Perry County, and moved it to Avent, adding a bandsaw, edger and trimmer. The Avent mill, with a cutting capacity of 25,000 feet per day, cut hardwood and cypress.

In April 1929 the company bought the plant and timber holdings of the Southern Saw Mill Company, at Greenville, Florida, and moved its operations from Avent, MS, to Greenville, FL, with operations commencing there in July 1929.

Although none of these tokens is rare, it took me about a year to accumulate all of the different varieties.
The distinctive reverse of some of the brass tokens - "IN MDSE" on a banner overlaying the denomination - is recognizable as a product of Meyer & Wenthe, a token and badge manufacturer in Chicago. I have not been able to determine if they made all of the other styles, but the fact that the obverses are the same on the brass examples, plus the use of the "IN MDSE" wording on one style of the plastic tokens, makes me think that they were all made by the same company.

Not sure how many here venture ATS, but lately, I have never seen a public forum in all my hobbies that gets soo censored. I understand it is their forum, but the last couple months it seems their censorship and bannings have just gone over the edge. EVERY forum I am a member of , not just coins, have an open topic category for those that just like to post things about life. ATS doesn't allow anything that isn't coin related or mentions any negativity towards PCGS. At least NGC has let conversations go pretty far, even at the expense of someone possibly not happy with NGC service or one of their coins. There is zero tolerance ATS. It's a shame because some of the off topics do have some good questions and/or info. Oh well, I guess you just have to learn to kiss butt and tread lightly over there to survive!

I have not even looked there in six+ months. The president himself started a topic about their "unwritten rules", and when I asked what their rules were for removing threads that were somehow deemed embarrassing to them, I was immediately banned. The president simultaneously insinuates that I'm involved in some kind of conspiracy, with a new "Rule 11" - "If a user is banned for violating rules and/or being rude and another user attempts to turn it into a conspiracy about something completely unrelated, that user will also be banned." The whole "we're the best, we're infallible" thing over there is nuts. It sounds like it hasn't changed. Like you, I appreciate NGC.

Coinbuf got a reaction from RonnieR131 in Doubled Die Reverse?
No worries, maybe this diagram that a member from ats posted will help you to understand the difference.  The real key is the height of the relief of both areas, MD is always lower than the die relief because the MD is caused by the die bouncing at the time of striking and thus doesn't receive the full striking pressure.  A true DD is in the die thus the doubled area is struck to the same relief as the primary design.  Its also important to note that in some cases it is possible to have both MD and DD.
