  1. If I tried to commit math in public, I'd likely only succeed in embarrassing myself!! Let me tell you, doctoral level stats was some fun for me......I've never suffered so much in a class!!! I got through it with a B-. I have never worked so hard for a B- in my life!!!
  2. Very cool!!! Dr. Ross would blow up my brain!! I have dyscalculia, which is basically dyslexia with numbers, so my math skills can be somewhat lacking. My Ed.D is in Higher Education Leadership. I'm working on starting my career right now. I could do a lot of different things with my Ed.D.
  3. Hahaha......nah, I'm not Walt or the new guy. My name's Tom . But it is fascinating that I know of at least three Ed.D's involved in the hobby now!!
  4. Hahaha....I love it!!! Vcoin does sound like it could be a cleaning product!!! But seriously, if you like ancients, VCoins is a great place to get acquainted with. I've gotten great stuff at good prices and I've never had a problem. For anyone who's interested: https://www.vcoins.com/en/Default.aspx
  5. I have an Ed.D, which stands for Extremely Deep Debt
  6. That's an interesting suggestion, James. I know with them you don't have to worry about fakes, but you're right.....they're definitely pricey. But if you want to place a phone order, they may be a good option. I've actually never bought anything from them, but I was looking at their ancients section just now and some of their prices weren't horrendous for the coins being offered.
  7. Jonathan gave you great advice here. The only thing I would add is regarding VCoins. Coins from Roman Empress Faustina the Younger are basically the only thing I actively collect any longer and I've gotten many fine pieces for my collection from dealers on VCoins. You should be just fine purchasing from vendors there, I've never had a bad experience. I hope that this helps! ~Tom
  8. You could also post it in the Ask NGC/NCS section.....you may have better luck getting Mr. Lange's attention in that thread.
  9. It looks like a heavy beast. Wearing that at all ANA shows will be FUN........
  10. It's actually a mint error? I've never heard of a ragged fissure before. I'm shocked!! I thought for sure it was a victim of someone going crazy with metal snips. This "Pac-Man" may actually be worth something......I'll be damned! Even after 22 years of doing this, I still learn new things all the time in this hobby.
  11. And a rumble it will likely be. Good luck to everyone who wants one!!
  12. So very true. I just wasn't sure if this variety was too minor for NGC to attribute it. Hence why I went with Variety Vista. In the future, I will link both sites
  13. Once again Kurt, congratulations!! That is an amazing honor!!
  14. I forgot to add, Quintus......it's a completely understandable error. The 25, 50 and 100 Kurushes all look exactly the same unless you can clearly see the size, which isn't readily apparent from the photos. At least the 250 and 500 Kurushes have little numeric value representations on the obverses in the 6 o'clock position. The silver 5, 10 and 20 Kurush coins aren't denominated either and they also all have the exact same design. The Ottomans must have just relied on the sizes of the coins to suffice for denominational differences with many of their coins.
  15. Hi Rick, I, too, am back after a long absence. And I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your wife, I really am. I just wanted to offer my condolences. I had a couple of serious losses myself during my time away.....I lost both my mom and stepmom to cancer in 2020. It really sucks.....I feel for you, man. ~Tom
  16. You're in for a treat......I actually own Roger's Peace Dollar book myself. I don't even collect U.S. coins and I really enjoyed it. There is a ton of fascinating information in there. And it also inspired my fiancée, who is building a Morgan Dollar date set, to add Peace Dollars as well!!
  17. Well, I know pretty much nothing about silver Washington Quarter varieties, but I can point you to a website that will help you immensely: http://www.varietyvista.com/ The website has variety information for all kinds of U.S. coins, not just silver Washingtons. For someone who looks for U.S. varieties, as you appear to, this site is an excellent resource.
  18. You're absolutely right. I can't tell you how many hearts I had to break and hopes I had to dash when I worked at the brick and mortar shop with stuff like this. People would bring things like this, stuff from Littleton, stuff bought off the TV and we'd have to tell them what they had was either worthless or worth far less than they paid for it. And some of these people really needed some significant money when they came to sell to us. But we couldn't help them. In this hobby, and in life, there are many things which are legal but which aren't necessarily ethical. If NGC certifies these coins with a special label, that's more than fine, but to sell these coins for such a high markup over what an ordinary uncirculated 1964-D Kennedy sells for, I have a big issue with that. I just don't see what makes them worth that kind of a markup.
  19. I'd say no. The coin is in bad shape and has no eye appeal whatsoever. I know when you're starting out, it's tempting to buy coins wherever you see them, especially when the price is low like this. However, I would recommend holding on to your hard earned money until you find coins with eye appeal, that are problem free and that will continue to bring you joy even years from now. That 1864 Indian is none of those things. You can definitely do better with time, patience and by fighting that urge that tells you to buy coins wherever you see them.
  20. I have to agree with the others......$1.99 is high for this coin. When I worked at the brick and mortar shop, we sold common date Indian Cents like this one 50 cents, and that was in 2012-2013. I think that 25-50 cents is the correct price range for this coin.
