I respect your opinion. However ...
I'm not sure I agree with your statements, especially about working hard.
I firmly believe that each person holding a #1 registry set should have a time limit in that slot. I am adamant that each one of us should be moved to a Champion's Hall of Fame, etc. after that time limit and we should be duly recognized for our accomplishment. I'm not there yet, but believe you me, if I ever am, I'll vacate quickly for the next guy to move in!
I do agree with your statement about being #1 versus the ranked competitors during a given year. You are #1 until beaten, especially if no other method is established to remove those sets in that #1 spot. But to say that once another method is established that you don't deserve #1 is, in reality, a far stretch from the truth.
This is the "working hard" part I disagree with. Because you are #2 and the #1 slot becomes suddenly vacant, you IMMEDIATELY deserve the promotion, regardless of why the vacancy occured. Wouldn't you be deserving if the owner of #1 set sold their collection? What about if they were removed from the Registry for violation of the bylaws or usage agreement? Any number of things could apply here. The fact remains, however, YOU WOULD BE DESERVING!
Didn't you work just as hard to get your #2 set as the person above did to get their set? As I mentioned in the initial post on this topic, some of us are limited in the funds necessary to take down the currently reigning seat holder. I know I am! I am speculating again (MY OPINION ONLY) that a lot of the #1 owners simply told someone or said to themselves, "Hey, I want a #1 Registry set. Get me one ASAP for the best price you can." End of story! How can the average Joe Smoe, white or blue collar worker, do that? It takes a lot longer for most of us. But that doesn't mean that you didn't work hard to be in that #2 slot - it only means you worked and worked for a longer period of time to get there.
I KNOW THIS IS TRUE FOR ME!
Anyone else?
PS - I also agree with most of the comments from those who voiced an opinion on this subject that OBSCURED SETS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED, PERIOD.
Respectfully (and hopefully without insulting anyone),
Michael
