These coins take me back to my collecting "roots"... Left to Right & Bottom: 1901, 1906 & 1907

Greetings Collectors,

Taking a trip down "memory lane". These coins are some of the first coins I collected back in the "mid-60's". These, some Buffalo nickels, and some Mercury dimes, along with a few silver dollars, assorted Walkers, of of course, the "center-piece" of my collection, my 1810/09 Classic Head large cent. Wow, what memories. I think I use to get as excited, if not more so when I got one of these compared to obtaining $20 gold piece of late. This is when I cared not what the coins were worth. I just loved every one of them because they were "OLD". Back then, these were only about 50 years old. My how time flies. This post may be shorter than normal as I don't have a whole lot to say, coupled with the fact that I can see my "left cheek" outta my left eye. I will be in the dentist chair in the morning taking care of an "abscess (sp) tooth". Damn my mouth hurts. Percocet isn't even touching the pain. Guess I better go take a couple more. These pills have a "very short" shelf life around my house. I'm just thankful I saved a few back after my last surgery. Doctors around here sure don't just hand them out.

Got a few things in the mail today. eBay has a seller who is a little on the "un-known" side and I was able to pick up 3 prestige silver proof sets at below melt for the coins inside. Pretty neat. Got a 90% silver dollar and two silver halves, a silver quarter and a silver dime in these old issues from the mint. They really "spruced" them up nice with a couple commemorative coins ($1.00 & $.50) along with the other silver and copper coins. A beautiful velvet case to boot. Very nice. I have several already but these were dates I did not have I got the 1987 U.S. Constitution, 1992 Olympic Games, & the 1994 World Cup. Also picked up a little better date in the "Premier" proof set series, ("black box" "velvet case") the 1998. This one was $16 with free shipping. And of course another few rolls of mostly 40% Kennedy halves with 12 more "singles" in 90% silver. 1964 Kennedy's and a few circulated Franklin halves. It was a great day at "mail time".

Has anyone else been having trouble getting their weekly editions of "Coin World" to arrive undamaged? This is like 5 out of the last 7 that have come with "ripped pages" on the cover, the back and even some inner pages. They have a "beefed-up" service where they ship the mags inside an "obscure" plastic cover that would eliminate the damage and of course keeping the issue from "prying eyes". But it's like an extra $15-$20 dollars per yearly subscription to have the mags come this way and I'm just too cheap/frugal to pay the extra. But I tell ya, it's starting to be past aggravating to have each issue get here, looking like someone in the "nick of time" saved it from a "shredder machine". I may have to spring for the extra bucks if this keeps up.

Well, so much for the "shorter post". I guess I am feeling those meds after all. I hope everyone is having a great week. There have been some great journals lately. It's always nice to see a rare/scarce coin get nabbed and to hear of one's exploits at one of the larger coin shows. I can totally relate leaving a show to get a bite to eat, and then return and buy that outrageously expensive coin I had been looking at before, and had already made up my mind I "WASN'T" going to get it, but did (get it) anyway. What do they call this??? An impulse buy?? Maybe in my case, it was an "insufficiently_thoughtful_person buy". But for whatever reason, ended up with it, against all logic & reason. I guess that's just part of being a "Numismaniac". Of which I stand "guilty as charged".

Silver had a pretty big "mini-correction" last night dropping over $1.50 per ounce, but both it and all metals have had a "stellar week" and was due for some "profit taking". Gold at the moment is $1403.80 and silver is at $27.46 which puts the silver to gold ratio all the way down to 51.121 This continued tightening of the ratio is huge when it comes to investing in silver coins or silver of any kind. Keep in mind that just a few short months ago, the silver to gold ratio was 68. It has been much higher than 68 inside the last couple years. It has been in the 80's & 90's. Wow what a ride it's been and there's more yet to come.

Happy Collecting!
