Medical expenses taking a priority over new purchases "Newps"

Greetings Collectors,

I have had to temporarily suspend purchases of additional coins for all of my much "needing & wanting" sets. I have really been trying as of late, to fill holes in my 3-4 mint sets I have been concentrating on, that being the 1853, 1892, the 1901 and the last being the 1923. I have been successful in filling some holes in all four but after reflecting back on the grade of the pieces added, I have thought that it may have been better to have purchased higher grade coins than the ones I ended up getting. I have been of the "mind-set" that a quality AU set will be fairly respectable. I have gone with these, concentrating on mostly "un-toned" pieces with great eye appeal. I am staying just "south" of where the value really jumps on each. I do hope I am taking the right path doing it this way.

I still want to make gains in my Franklin and Walker sets as well but with 3 surgeries coming up and no health insurance, making any more purchases in the next month or two, will be few and far between, if at all. I have been working on photos of coins purchased in the last couple months. Adding some and re-shooting others. There always seems to be coins that look way better up close and in person and I am forever trying to capture the quality of those in pictures. This, in its self, is a very difficult & challenging task.

These three MS-66 Franklin's pictured here were the three I won in a Heritage auction recently, only to find the guy who owned them, hadn't released them yet. This collector which will remain "un-named" still has coins in his sets that he sold several weeks ago on the same night. All were sold the same night as these three I picked up. But he chooses to only delete ones that he is "called on". This still does not sit well with me but, I guess it takes all kinds to make a world.

Another collector here may purchase my 7 proof Ike dollars and as soon as he does, and they leave my possession, they will be removed from my set. Talking about those seven coins, the total "Numismedia" value is less than $275 but the 7 total 1600 CS points. I would need to spend $2000+ on a $20 double eagle to garner that many points. There has to be something wrong with that picture.

Anyway, I hope all is well with the rest of you here at the CS and I will be watching and reading as each of you share journals and photos of all of your "newps". Continue to have fun with all aspects of this hobby we all love so much.

Happy Collecting!
