So... I will jump right on in...

Last week I made a posting titled "Say Cheese Please" simply asking my fellow (and fellowette (trying to be politically correct)) collectors to image their treasures and share thier stories of their collections. While several others have either email me personally (imzadissir@aol.com) or made additional journal posting stating they have added more images/stories, it would also seem as though I sparked other conversations regarding the inclusion of PCGS coins and their inclusion into our (NGC) registry sets.

As has been pointed out, PCGS has decided only their coins are worthy of being part of their registry, therefore, winners in the PCGS registry have the best PCGS slabbed coins. Not the best coins period, but simply the best in their holders. Because NGC has opened our registry to both NGC & PCGS it gives our collecting society a broader base upon which to determine the best collections. This registry, our registry, because of its inclusivness has improved the quality of the winning registry sets. It is truely more representative of the best of the best, the crem-de-la-crem.

If you have that competitive spirit, enough so that you image all your coins and give detailed descriptions ( and I would love to see more of you do that..) of your prized posessions, if you want to say you have the best collection.... don't you really want to feel that you have the best? When you are given that award that says you have the best in catagory, do you want it to mean the best for NGC or the best PERIOD!! I vote for the best PERIOD.

I can certainly understand, and agree to the request for limiting sight unseen collections, but I will take that a step further... impose that restriction on ALL sets. I would like to see a minimum of 75% images and descriptions for consideration of awards. Realizing not everybody has a camera or scanner, I look at it this way... if we can afford those fancy slabs, we can afford to spend 2 bucks at Kinko's to have it scanned for the registry.

The attached scan below is of my 1909 10 Kroner MS64 Denmark NGC Cert# 358933-052 and resides in my very small Signature Collection. I love gold but I am too cheap to buy more.

Respectfully,

Michael W. Cooper
