Regrades downwards and the NGC guarantee, how good is it?

Well they finally removed the 5FS off the no-step Jefferson I last wrote about.

It took a call to NGC where I was asked to send it to the attention of Mr. Taylor to get this done. He called me back (when I was out) and left a message saying I'd get some coupon or readjustment for my trouble and their mistake. However, today the coin arrived without anything with it. Not to put NGC down of course but several years ago when PCGS regraded a (one of eight at the time) "finest known" Jefferson's 2 grades lower MINUS the steps they did send the coin back along with a check for exactly $1,000. That particular piece originally cost me $800 so it certainly was MUCH better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. I'm still hopeful that NGC will live up to that, however I'm not holding my breath, we live and we learn. If I'm pleasantly surprised I'll certainly speak up, if not I'll just mark it down as one of life's lessons and perhaps a valid reason why certain slabs are intrinsically worth more than others. If anyone else has had pleasant experiences with NGC along the same lines I'd really like to hear about it.
