Collecting in Dansco Albums or Any Albums

Hi everyone. Well the first proof set has been released and they have a special gift. It's nice but there is no place marked for them. These albums depending on which ones you like perform a great service to collectors just beginning  at any age. Now where do you get the coins to put them in. I get mine from the mint. One reason the proof, and proof silver, are untouched. The uncirirculaded sets P& D also are important. 

Now many of you think there not worth anything. There not valuable but they are our coinage. That's important now the sets by themselves are worth what they are. Now I use Dansco Albums because I can see the obverse and reverse. So where is the value? You learn about the coins that your collecting. Also when a set is complete depending on condition there worth more. That's right. This is why the four sets are important. One they teach and collectors learn. Also put a complete Kennedy set together now. With the proofs,the silver proofs and the P&D. Now it's a different picture. 

Some of these sets even have varieties in them. When you collecting go over the coins or you will put a rarity or variety in it. My Kennedy set not one coin was ever touched. They shine like the sun when I open it. And they don't give them away. Be careful if you order a set like this they could be counterfeit coins in there. Or cleaned. That were the sets come in. You know where they come from and you know the condition no worries about the coins. Meanwhile the price goes up not down. More than I can say about the price of silver today. If someone wants to buy it you put your best foot forward. That's why these sets are important. If you don't have them there's no problem. That's fine remember we collects what we like. I like coins our coins in great condition. There is nothing wrong with putting an circulated set together. You collect any set you like. Some are hard to find circulated. But there out there. The fun is in the hunt. So I hope I did some justice to these albums they sell allot of them and for good reason. It's a stepping stone to your future in collecting. I hope you enjoyed this on our coinage and albums and sets. They are made not for me but for thousands and thousands. Enjoy and keep collecting. You never know when it will pay off besides it's fun. I enjoy collecting raw coins in albums or folders.  I just completed a Newfoundland Type Set in a Whitman Folder and am 2 coins away from completing a small Canadian Cent folder.  Slabs are great but I like raw coins just as much.

I have a group of little Whitman folders that I bought at Hobby Lobby. To the extent to which they're filled I've filled them mostly from searching rolls from circulation. I haven't tried to update them in 10 years or more. I've been trying to convince myself to go back and start looking for the new coins for them sometime. I just haven't gotten around to it.

Don't worry about it. It doesn't matter what you use. My budget back when I could afford the sets. If I did it today it would be the best circulated coins and there are good ones. Those two nickels I have to start that set in MS 66 and 67 If it in change. Someone had to break up a set. And you will enjoy it. Mike.

I also am a fan of Dansco Albums. I like the ability to view both sides of the coin or token. Also they are all archive quality so no degrading of the coins. Just a personal choice. Many other kinds out there just as good. Great job Mike. Keep them coming.

I think  that's great I really do. One , most of us forget how we started. Two there not valuable to me. But they are. Everything is not just value. But the feeling of accomplishment you get its probably one of the harder ways to collect. Looking for that one and this one. I like the sets that have been going since the early nineties and still continue today or Mercury Dimes all silver and many in good shape. Thank you. Mike

I still have the Whitman folders (Lincoln wheat cents) that started my collecting obsession 58 years ago.  I filled all but 6 slots from circulation - care to guess which ones?

1909 VDB, 1909 S VBD, wouldn't be surprised if the 1909 and 1909 S without the VDBs also gave you trouble from circulation. I would have a hard time guessing specifically from there but most of the other early S mint Lincoln cents are also really low mintages - some under 5 million - so I'd say those would be contenders.

I actually found the 1909 and 1909 VDB in circulation.  Being on the east coast, S-mint coins were scarce, but I still managed to fill everything except the 1909-S, 1909-S VDB, 1914-D, 1922-D, 1922 No D and 1931-S from circulation.  It helped that my grandfather had a huge jar he had thrown his "pennies" in for 20 years or more, and searching through those filled in most of the early dates. Those slots are still vacant.

I don't which one to guess. There were so many six slots is allot when you consider the big ones there are others let me know. Thank!!!

I bet you can't wait to put those last two coins in that set. It's a great feeling you accomplished something important. Good luck in finding them.

I started out as a kid with Whitman cent and nickel albums. I traded the nickels over the years for candy money, and finally threw the albums away sometime in my teens or twenties. But, I kept the coins that were left. Then, about a year or so ago, a thread on these boards got me to wondering just how hard it would be to complete a set of clad coins from circulation. So, I went out and bought Harris and Whitman albums for cents, nickels, dimes, and quarters. I started with the coins that I had saved for all those years, then got out the boxes, bags, and cans full of coins that my wife and I had been putting aside for the last 20 years. It has been loads of fun filling holes like I did when I was a kid. I even bought  State  Quarter and National Park Quarter books, and I fill another hole about once every two weeks or so. I feel sort of like I am getting back to my roots, collecting-wise.

Here are two of the albums I have been working on:

What a great looking set I see it has the regular wholes. You should be proud of it. Don't give up. Finish it. It took five years to finish my Coventry Set By Kempson. Rarer than those cents. Some they made 200 of. So if I can do it you can to. When you put the last one in a smile you will never have again will come over your face thanks. Mike

Just a note. I was putting my silver proof sets into my books. And when I took out the books I needed I found a complete set of Eisenhower dollars. !! Everyone looked like it just came of the die. I bought the book and filled it with coins from sets I forgot about it. Well after twenty five years I guess it's ok to forget one set. It may not have a large value  as money goes but it's valuable to me. It brings happiness to me. It reminds me collect the coins you like and you will never get tired of them. By The way as of May 19 2019 my books are filled till next year. I will tell you the Kennedy' with the silver and silver proofs and the P&D those books like the nickels get very heavy. I checked the Kennedy's the prices have gone up again that's three years in a row.  Remember they all came from sets. That increase the value compared  to circulated coins. I need sun glasses when I open it. As good as Dansco is I wrap both books in bubble wrap. I keep them away from windows and heat. I do that with my books from cents on up to the V nickel to the Eisenhower. So enjoy your books. Mike.
